Current situation with profitability per TB is 0.18-0.81 $/TB

Storj is completely exploiting new node… i have been using storj node for almost 2 month…1st month everything was fine I got a brandwidth of more then 1 tb but this month they have sent me around 700 gb of storage and more then 700gb of garbage, even my daily brandwidth also reduced from last 15 days after maintaining above 99%(online). After complaining to support team, they replied to update the node, as i am using windows pc, as per i know it is automatically updated in windows. Even i checked, i have the latest update. Just for the sake of replying they said “update your node”. Such a irresponsible support staff of STORJ.

Just be patient and let it grow. You won’t get rich over night.

What response did you expect? The support team is just going over the common mistakes. You don’t have to write them a support ticket in the first place if you believe everything is correct on your end.

That sounds normal: everyone gets a portion of what customers upload… and customers upload at different rates at different times. Some months are just slow. And we’re expecting more garbage the next couple months as files from old accounts get cleaned up.

But even though you may not use a huge amount more space this month… your node is still working its way through being audited, and also getting through the initial 9-month withholding period. So if you stick with it you will use more space, and will start earning 100% payouts, and will start making more money! Good luck!

This is about 5x my new nodes in the first month, so…

  1. How is this possible?
  2. Why is he complaining?

Maybe he caught the last month with 5% for unvetted nodes. I got the same in january. Now after the first month, on a new node I only got like 180 GB. The unvetted nodes get only 1% of ingress.

Lately is seems like for every week-worth-of-space-gains we lose-four-days-worth-to-garbage. Then gain for another week… lose four days of progress… gain for another week… rinse+repeat…

I can’t complain: we all knew free-tier changes weren’t gonna be fun…

Hello @Carry2024,
Welcome to the forum!
Sorry, but your setup didn’t have any issues so far, so it’s ok.
And any customers behavior is OK too, so you may see a different usages during the way, it’s not depend on your hardware or software settings except the edge cases, which are described in Step 1. Understand Prerequisites - Storj Docs

Gentlemen!
I suggest we return to our sheep!
The situation has changed and profitability after all the ongoing castrations is decreasing without stopping.
So…

My costs are 20 USD, it is predicted that in the best case I will make a profit of 6 USD
And now a question from the audience - is this game worth the candle or will we soon see rats fleeing from this beautiful ship?

This isn’t a memecoin.
Do the nodes cover their expenses? keep them running.
Are payouts less than your expenses and you are operating at a loss? switch nodes off.
Are the payouts at break even with your expenses? have patience and wait it out.

Bro thanks for the support.
How are you doing with debit and credit?
Switch nodes off looms on the horizon ?

I’m keeping all of mine running, but I won’t be adding capacity as fast as I was until this delete/garbage-collection situation is done and I know where the nodes stand with regards to usage.

It’s always a cycle: some months we get good traffic (I clocked 15+ TB newly stored data a few times), other months it’s a trickle (<5TB newly stored).

They just cleaned up the free accounts and fixed some bugs that prevented trash removal. This dosen’t happening on a monthly basis, because there are no free accounts anymore to clean and the bugs are squashed. So don’t draw rushed conclusions based on last year.

I still see none of that fixed. Only the bloomfilter deletion seems corrected in an upcoming release.

I’m starting to think I am on the same boat as well…

My old naïve strategy was to add a HDD every time Storj fills one.

But with all the recent changes to forever-free accounts, capacity-reservation data and performance testing… I’ve had to take a more nuanced position: to add a HDD every time Storj fills one.

Have you ever had a negative month before? It sounds like many SNOs will have less stored data on May 31 than they did on May 1.

Who hasn’t ? This month is the worst so far, but I get it, I don’t mind changing my strategy based on the current conditions.

As long as the dev team is working 24/7, promises of new customers keep coming and Storj personel is not shrinking, we have all the reasons to stay optimistic. I see these waves as a good thing: they keep away big farmers. If we were constantly on an upward trend, the flies will be attracted, and our payouts would go down or flatten.

my harddisk will not grow, it will depreciate month after month.
