Apprantly it was not implemented for GE, only for normal operations. Probably an oversight or priority was not high enough.
Guess we’ll need an official answer for that, however:
This means that you would actually have to fail 10% of the transfers at least 5 times before your node gets DQed.
You would still rely on remote nodes not throwing errors but it makes the probability of a failed GE a lot lower.
