I created the identity on a Xeon and it took me half an hour
Success! Identity creation took 15 mins and found a key with a difficulty of 38.
For any beginner that struggles with this in the future, I figured out the signs to look for that the process has for whatever reason failed.
#1 check your cpu usage, in my case the process used a consistent 60% of my i7-4790 3.6ghz. The first time i ran it the cpu was basically idle by the time I checked.
#2 the line that says “Generated xxxxxx keys;” should be ticking up/increasing in value rapidly. On my first unsuccessful 7 day run that number stopped increasing at some point and just stayed the same.
My fix:
Full windows 10 reinstall then restarted the process.
While reinstall may have been overkill, having a system that isn’t being robbed of all its resources by random software and utilities that have accumulated over the years is never a bad option.
