Helping the network become profitable — what can operators contribute while staying viable? (calculator inside)

It was ~70% as far as I remember and still is. ~3.2 (expansion factor + long tail + infra/staff expenses) * $1.5 = $4.8, which is $4.8/$7 * 100 ~ 69%
Egress I don’t include, because it’s almost 1:1, we, unlike many of SNOs are forced to pay for egress. Of course, if we eliminate payment for egress to SNO, it will add more profit to us, but we cannot, because of losing incentive for SNOs to have a fast connection; it will inevitable lead to a speed degradation.

They never shared this. There is a completely different business model. Operator there is not an SNO in a normal sense, they are basically hardware and bandwidth providers, they usually even do not setup nodes themselves (I mean - manually). Their responsibility is much harder - 100% online, 24/7 NOC, HA (for everything, including staff, not only a hardware or the internet connection), SLA and fines regulated by a contract. They are simple out of scope. They will exist independently of how much we love a public network, due to strict limitations imposed by some customers (like SOC2 type II and a lot of papers..).

This is impossible to achieve. Some jurisdictions simple cannot use this as a payment method (don’t want to deep into details, but they are really exist). We must provide also a usual fiat payments for the customers. For SNOs it’s much easier - because the individual already researched, can they be paid with STORJ tokens or not, and all taxes/legality burden on their own. The customers is a different thing, they are not contractors or a service providers, most of countries are agree on the procedure, so they must follow their laws which may differ for companies rather for individuals, and even very significant.

Perhaps it’s what is expected by this proposal (I don’t know, because I’m not a lawyer):
