Rrrrabit, Yeas, i can allow speed tests from satellite and throttle actual customers.
They are throtled, thats agains agreement with Storj, if i get detected i get banned.
90% of people will not dare or bother to risk that.

Do i throttled specific customer or all customers?

• all customers, my machine serves egress with 1Mbps, then can a mystery customer audit that over some period of time, that the speed from this node is always max 1Mbps?

I know it downloads 29 fastest parts from the 80.
Therefore the lowest from caped ones, may never been downloaded.
Thats some sign too.
Maybe the suspected capping nodes can be found by not winning the race at all over some time, or for too low wining ratio.
But i do know that You can design a solution, it just need work to figure out.
There, please don’t say “You can’t”, or “impossible”.
it’s a matter of need and will.
Maybe Storj inc. thinks, they don’t need it, that’s another subject.

But in order to shield Your self from bad actors, You would need to establish a requirements and enforce it. And put additional requirement, like minimal wining ratio example: 60% daily.
To make sure node don’t cap upstream drastically, against other nodes.

i guess node stats are known to satellite, or can be known? i mean success ratio, so extremely bad performing nodes should be very visible.

for me, incentive to serve free egress is keeping the network, that pays me $1.5/TB storage. If i wont give free egress the network will fail, and i loose. Also bad rate on egress should influence how much ingress that i get, so its correlated, and incentivizes me to NOT throttle anything.
