The reasoning was different: the Ethereum ecosystem is much more popular with developers than Counterparty (tokens on the Bitcoin blockchain) was at the time. We dreamed of using microtransactions and it was not available then, the BTC lightning network appeared later. Transaction fees were high (several times higher than on Ethereum at the time). Transaction confirmation times were measured in days, while on Ethereum it was seconds or minutes.
