Nodes shrinking

To them storj is just like any other customer. They just sell storage to storj, so they don’t need to care about details like running nodes.

Did you see this? I saw that it’s a progress update: but I don’t think they said they were finished. So I’m not surprised to still see lots of deletions.

I’ve been growing slowly over the last week or so

You eat too much, maybe? :face_with_monocle:

It is exactly where it has started…

I see slow growing data. But the bandwidth (ingress) is going down steadily. But I don’t think that they need much longer to delete the rest of the data. So hoping to see better growth next month

To really see whether the nodes are growing or shrinking, it makes more sense to look at a slightly longer period. I always look at the last 30 days and there I have a growth of 996 GB as of today

My oldest node:

My newest node:

Probably also need to rerun the used space checker at some point to be more accurate, but you get the gist.

Also sometimes the discussion here is near indistinguishable from greedy capitalists wanting constant growth lol. So as long the storage used covers some amount of electricity I’m in it for the long haul.

March 2024: 10.78TBm
March 2025: 10.85TBm

In between a lot of up and down
31 months old nodes. Just picked one .. probably the best. Many nodes have less than 1 year before

no one told that it will be easy.

What? No. :money_mouth_face:

Last 30 days:

My last day and 30 days

But I have seen that if you have older nodes, they really shrink. this also indicates that old unpaid data is being cleaned up.
my younger nodes are growing strongly.

so everything fits with what storj said that currently still unpaid data is being deleted but at the same time a lot of new paid data is coming in

Old payed data is removed by clients, also. Imagine if you have backups, you realy don’t need them older than 1-2 years.

What I see atm is more like 1-2 days…

It is not just about wanting constant growth. It is about Storj telling us there is constant growth. They keep saying they are operating in one of the biggest and fastest growing markets, that there is rapid revenue growth, that there is constant growth, that there is a strong sales pipeline with petabyte customers and that almost no existing customers leaving them instead they put more and more data into Storj. Source: Current and recent town halls.

Unfortunately Storj does not disclose for which of their product offering this holds true. So we have to do our own investigations and checks. And that reveals for example that the big Atomos customer have chosen Select as their storage solution.

So maybe Object Mount, Cloud GPU and Select are the growing segments and having fantastic results, but the Public network might not. That’s why some SNOs keep checking and asking where the growth that Storj is talking about is really going.

The grow is on a Public network too, you may take EU1 satellite as an example

There is no a nice graph with a growing usage in PB by EU1, but you may use the number of remote segments too

But this graphs Include select network as far as I know.

Is Select still US1 only?
