Why we’re doing this The Storj network is currently sitting at roughly 50% utilization, with about 66 PB of free space available after deduplication. At the same time, many nodes that are operating correctly — following the rules, offering reliable uptime and bandwidth — are hitting a ceiling on how…

[image] littleskunk: Effective September 1st, we’re adjusting payout rates as a first step: Rate Current New Change Used space (storage) $1.50/TB/month $1.35/TB/month -10% Egress (bandwidth) $2.00/TB $1.00/TB -50% pricing.db still contains the old values, when is this going to be…

[image] Pentium100: So, the way to do this is instead of a 10TB node, run 10x1TB nodes. When I want some space back, I shut down one of the nodes and get 1TB of free space. I don’t think it’s efficient use of space in hashstore scenario. I bet you’ll have much more reclaimable (dead) space.

[image] Vadim: /32 will lower this number. [Screenshot 2026-09-02 125132] @littleskunk we alredy see some diferences upp 2 sept today [Screenshot 2026-09-04 145342] but other stat show that node amount is mostly is the same how is that? edit, now it looks like almost all back.

[image] alpharabbit: Is storj planning to make the software closed source? Nope. It’s fully open source. I think it’s a misunderstanding of my post. It’s not about the source it’s about the config. And the runtime configuration of our services couldn’t be shared, obviously. It…

Do these rules allow to route repair traffic to nodes that have passed a specific age? So that older nodes that have proved to be reliable and are in a long term commitments get selected more often for repair ingress? This is not a suggestion to do this, just a question if it could be setup like thi…

Theoretically yes. You need to tag such nodes and then use this tag as a grouping factor in a choice-of-n rule. But you would need to build some chore which would constantly recheck this. Sounds like a little bit overhead. Maybe there is a way use date directly.

[image] MarviBiene: Can someone explain why too much idle capacity in the network is bad? If someone is not happy with what he gets he can quit, but it seems everyone was happy even though he didn’t receive full potential. Or is there something I am missing? It’s just an excuse to reduct the …

The idea is explained here multiple times. 100TB are stored on 100 nodes each got $1.5/mo at $1.5/TB 100TB are stored on 90 nodes each got $1.5/mo at $1.35/TB
