Then adjust the price. Don’t start fiddling with other rules. Keep it simple! ![]()
BTW @littleskunk, to onboard more SNOs so prices can be lowered even further, perhaps Storj could do some YouTube tutorials on how to set up nodes, buy IPs for them from specific cloud providers, route them to the nodes, etc. Or you could pay some crypto shills who will show how a SNO can earn thousands per month overnight, and suddenly there will be thousands upon thousands of nodes joining.
This would also prop up $STORJ for a moment, so whoever is still holding could offload at a better price.
@HGPlays, you could do such tutorials too perhaps? You already have a channel. Maybe Storj would throw some $STORJ your way for the effort.
Onboarding more SNOs is probably the last thing Storj needs to focus on right now.
This! As a great man once said:
Well, maybe that way they would be able to run the network for free (at least at the SNO side) and keep all the profits, paying off the debts even faster.

“Who are you making such demands?”
Who is this leadership right now anyway? It feels more like a group decision.
You want to have the Town Hall back. Ironically after chapter 11 there would be no need for that. The outcome of chapter 11 is way more important than any Town Hall. Anyway I can assure you with enough “free time” leadership would like to get back to these good practices from the past. In the meantime I can offer to answer some of the question you might have. We don’t have to wait for the next Town Hall for that.
I do not complain about new rates. In fact 10% as a first step is what I have proposed from the very beginning. But it did not need the whole discussion and your “calculator” wasn’t helpful either. You kinda overegineered things when the solution was so obvious. That’s what I mean.
Why do you think that? Storj is a private company, and they’ve grown to over 30k nodes just by saying “run this software, add your ETH wallet, and we’ll pay you $x/month for storage and $y/month for egress”. No need for definitive responses from executives. And SNOs are still clamoring over each other for ingress.
SNOs, by design, are disposable. I guess anyone can make demands in the forum… but in the end those executives won’t even notice the loudest of SNOs even if they leave…
Now you are falling for an exploit that these discussions have revealed. I noticed that I can shape the payout reduction in a way that it feels like 10% even if the payout gets reduce by almost 20%. So in a sense the discussions have helped us to realize that SNOs don’t look at total payout. They only look at used space rate.
Because they were asking us to participate in CBO? IMHO something like a townhall meeting would be the bare minimum if they are serious about CBO. Also they might want to prevent every single SNO from showing up as idividual creditor by court?
That depends on who is asking. If you want to blame leadership I will pretend I am not part of it. If you want me to push for an outcome and you manage to convince me I do have enough authority to do it myself. There arn’t that many people in the company to object. So right now I have more authority than ever before. There are some areas where I am not sure what the right thing to do would be so I do seek advice from the last remaining manager we have in the company but he is not micromanaging and so most decisions are a group decision at the end.
Right now the entire team fits into a single call. There is no need for a formal voting system. In the future with more employees sure but right now decision making is as easy as it can get.
We can’t be partner on this. You would need to be a shareholder for that. Here is an example. Lets say a big customer with a PB of storage comes around and wants to upload data for $3 per TB. What would you vote for? From your perspective as an SNO the pricing doesn’t matter. You would have an incentive to vote for yes even at $1 per TB. The moment you have an investment at stake the outcome might be different. If you would buy the company from the judge you would get 100% of the company and could make all decisions by yourself.
Agreed. Voting on things never leads anywhere good. We need to base decisions on the resources we actually have on hand—including brainpower.
The right move would be switching to free storage; that way, all our current issues will solve themselves in the best possible way.
People seem to forget this, it’s honestly a miracle they even allow a whole publicly indexable forum.
As an aside a DAO would help alleviate these issues by giving STORJ holders an illusion of choice.
I would guess that was in the context of the buyback idea. If the community would buy the company then they would get 100% ownership including all decisions.
Not SNOs, but nodes. SNO is a human in most cases.
Just going to leave this one here.
