The data is shrinking before our eyes

And in the last three months, the data cleanup plan has been running as foretold here:
https://forum.storj.io/t/data-cleanup-plan

Like @Knowledge said a few weeks ago, StorJ paid data on the public side has grown in this period - but it’s hard to notice with all the purging of unpaid data.

Between those two images: US1 gained what EU1 lost (around 3PB). So Storj has done a great job trimming EU1 at a rate that keeps overall used-capacity the same? Fine by me!

In fact, AP1 also gained, it almost doubled

I have higher ingress than ever since the speed test last year but almost zero growth. It seems like 80 to 90 percent of new data ist short term stuff now. After one week or less it is gone no matter if it comes with TTL or not. This is the new storj and it won’t change once housekeeping is over.

On the positive side I see egress growing nicely. But unfortunately like most home users I have asymmetric internet.

People keep complaining about not rising storage. I can understand that some want to see some progress. For some it would be better if all free tier storage gets cleaned instantly and then they see rising numbers again. (I don’t know how much that would be). But then there would be others that complain, that much data got deleted.
You can only choose between one of the bad stuffs. See no rising numbers but keep getting paid for storage or get all deleted (and miss the payments) and have a visual gain again.

And I know that it’s a psychological thing the people want to see progress and if they don’t, they get frustrated. It’s a natural thing

Going this long with no growth is completely unacceptable. SNOs should be graceful-exiting… or simply shutting their nodes off: as it’s madness to continue to support the Storj project.

(…and send me all their repair traffic :money_mouth_face: …)

My payout for the previous month was higher than I expected. So something is going on. I didn’t find the time to check why it was higher. I guess I need to find some popcorn first

I complain about the lack of communication. Why storj can’t just tell us how much paid data they have atm? This is a number they should know anytime.

There’s a lot of competition for S3 object storage. Why on earth would a private company like Storj tell their competitiors anything about their financials? No good would come of it.

Either SNOs are happy with their payouts, or they’re not… and since we’ve been gaining around 450 active nodes per month (for at least the last 6 months)… they must be happy.

I guess this is mostly storj’s own select nodes…

it is for egress, last months client more active downloading stored data.

I don’t have the feeling this thread was created to get that information. Feels more like some people need a place to vent.

In addition to that we are mixing 2 topics. We have storj select and the public network in one thread. Like a mine field and the moment we would provide some information that is going to trigger a few. So I better keep my mouth shut and spread the informations I want to share in other threads.

Thanks a lot. I thought I was already running at 100% bandwidth usage but sounds like there was still some room for extra payments. I guess that is just me beeing a bit sloppy with my observation. I look at the bandwidth spikes but I should look at the integral. (I hope I translate this correct. I just don’t track the total bandwidth usage. I only look how high are the spikes.)

This problem was created and can only be solved by storj. Should be not so difficult to split the publicly available stats for select and public.

indeed. i am enormously and extremely annoyed that no one wants to quit despite all this, really annoying to be forced out first. I have sworn eternal loyalty to the company, to be last man standing, for good and bad, and even now, those pesky few Terabyters just don’t want to quit! :frowning:

And you still don’t understand why storj stay away from this thread for the most part? You proved the point I was making. This thread doesn’t feel like a place where additional information would be usefull. It feels more like a minefield. But no problem. I can put my storj hat aside and put my storage node hat on. Now I can blend in just fine

Hey, to blend in you need to complain about something random too.
But i am curius too, how much free data is left. In the end of the day this information would just bring some calmnes into the community, but nothing productive. And i think its huge work for storj maybe to calculate free data? Or is it an avaliable but withold information?

Good point. I will go with the storage node dashboard. And the good old complain “still not fixed”. That should do it.

Here you go Data Cleanup Plan - Update

with large node count i see increase for payments ~$0.31 per node per month (avg. for year). so it ok for me.
