Updating Ubuntu from 18 LTS to 20 LTS?

Good morning,

I recently realized that my 18 LTS Ubuntu server is out of support, so now I get to decide if/how to upgrade. Does anyone have any experience upgrading their server from 18->20 LTS. Any road blocks? Or does it go smoothly? I know most people will say clean install is best(and I don’t disagree) but I don’t have spare storage laying around to backup all my data.

Why not go for 24.04 LTS ?

The point of containers is to isolate dependencies from the host OS and each other.

I do have some experience, been updating from 14 to 24, what your question then?

P/s: if you don’t use nvidia, most of the time it will work flawlessly, or some minor bug (due to third party ppa), the last issue I run into was some lib ssl, but you can always download deb and reinstall it manually.

Upgrades through to 24.04 have been no problem: don’t stop at 20.
