Big Spikes in egress

Why do you think that the hardware power means something?

Because it can handle more connections, maybe? I don’t know.

It depends mostly on your router. Some can handle, some - cannot. Surprisingly - Mikrotik (!) has issues more frequently, than oher SOHO routers. It can prevent even to finish GE without disqualification.
This was a big surprise for me. The direct connection of the Windows PC did finish the GE without any drop for that SNO…

interesting, i never had issues with mikrotik, i have something like 50+ nodes behind it.
maybe because it RB4011GS rackmount router it has enouth power, cpu never seen over 10%
and it has 1 GB RAM

In general, it seems to look like a <RELIEF> @BrightSilence was talking about a few weeks ago, I mean this mysterious customer.

Who knows, maybe one of those famous Forrester Research type of clients …

… prospected and acquired by Mr. Ben Golub and / or Mr. @john

during one of their airplane sales experience trips.

What do you think @heunland, @bre, @Alexey, @Knowledge, @Dominick could it really be one of those type of customers?

They wont tell you even if they know. Customer is Customer no personal info needed to spread who is who and why where and how use service. Today privacy of the business’ is the key element of success.

Of course @Vadim, fully agree!

I was not asking about full disclosure of this Customer name.

I was just wondering if this could be one of those airplane sales experience Forrester Research type of clients and if maybe more of them are going to join the swarm.

its most likely router that affects no. of connections and throughput ya?.. cause they need to manage the NAT table?.. does that make a custom pfsense router with more higher spec CPU better?.. since those readily available residential router, usually comes with lower specs…

Router can be a rate-limiting factor for sure, but @arrogantrabbit has also seen difficulties with the MODEMs/ONTs themselves
If you’re having problems with an Fibre ONT you’re pretty much stuck. If it’s a xDSL modem you can always get a better one

Yes, the more powerful device can handle more simultaneous connections. For example, I always used ZyXel routers and did not have any issues with thousands connections even via WiFi (WiFi4/5) and multiple devices (PC, raspberry Pi, Smart TV, several laptops and smartphones, smartwatch, smart plugs, robot vacuum cleaner and smart lamps), although only PC and laptops generated most of the traffic (I use Storj DCS for my photos and videos) and when I stress tested it (easily used the whole 100Mbit internet channel to upload and download to/from Storj DCS, with working 4 nodes in the same time).

Should be no different for Storj:

Asia-Pacific Leads Global Public Cloud Storage Growth in 2023

So yes, I am wondering why that Asia satellite is so much behind the others.

I’m not sure what your argument is here. Nobody said they don’t use cloud storage. Yes, the market is huge, but also…

Based on the Canalys China Public Cloud Service Tracker report of 2022 Q3, Alibaba Cloud is the largest cloud service provider in China with a 36% market share, followed by Huawei Cloud with a 19% market share, Tencent Cloud in the 3rd position with 16% market share and Baidu AI Cloud is the 4th largest cloud service provider with 9% market share.

If you think that sounds like a market where a western company that doesn’t provide a website in Chinese has any shot, I don’t know what to tell you…

Wasabi was so kind to identify the Asia-Pacific region (not China!) as the region with

some of the highest forecast growth rates for cloud storage volumes and budgets over the next year.

To participate from that growth it might be a good idea to evaluate if Storj market approach for that specific region including the Asia satellite usage is sufficient or needs refinement for better growth perspectives. Especially whereas countries with

might require a specific approach to market.

Right, but you quoted me referring to specific countries, not Asia-Pacific region.

Because you were also referring to more countries like Japan, which Wasabi describes as

Japan shows high prevalence of cloud storage migration in order to scale beyond on premises limits; but struggles with fees and budgets

This sounds like the perfect base of potential customers for Storj. I think you are right when you are describing some countries over there as some sort of isolated with China as extreme example. But for Wasabi countries like Japan still are on the list of big opportunities. If that’s the case, they should be a potential opportunity for Storj as well like I have said.
And this makes it worth to evaluate if Storjs market approach for that region brings the expected results or if it should be refined.

Personally, for 7 days there has been no peak output, it’s quite calm

Yes, I noticed it as well - it seems to look I might have been over-optimistic about the impact of Forrester Research clients.
