Hi,3months ago when told about Min 5$ bill I deleted all data. I requested support to close account. Was told if no data stored no minimum charge. I was just billed 5$ although I stored no data
This is already being addressed via your support ticket if you filed one. Note that it is still the weekend, any billing adjustments will be taken care of during regular office hours. Thank you for your patience. Posting in the forum will not speed up the resolution of the issue, filing a support ticket if you have not done so already will.
That’s why I teach people to use Virtual cards or One-off virtual cards in case of single payment. This way you will never get billed with any unwanted payments. Deadly Simple
This does not really solve anything: if biller thinks you owe them, failed payment method won’t magically make the debt go away.
All those virtual cards do is create a chore for the user to manage those accounts.
3 months ago i was informed after i requested for my account to be closed as i cant seem to do it i was assured if nothing is stored i will not be billed. i checked for the last 3 months i was billed 23c not sure what for and it shows paid and then all all of a sudden $5. There is nothing stored in my account accept 3 empty bucket which i cant delete and i also ask support to delete them for me 3 months ago and they still there. i am not posting here to speed up the resolution but informing other members about my issue so they can be aware of it as i wonder how many other people got billed $5 like me this month unaware. i have reopened the ticket from 3 months ago and trust they will refund me and close my account as requested by me
i dont have that option. i did try to remove my cc details but system wont allow it
i just checked, everymonth you say i own 32c then bill says $0 owned and Sept you again carry the 32c over and all off a sudden charge me $5 for you billing system that didnt bill me for the 32c 3 months ago. That not nice
$0.00 USD due August 6, 2025
Storj Cloud Storage for July 2025
Description Qty Unit price Amount
Prior Stripe Customer Balance 1 $0.32 $0.32
Subtotal $0.32
Total $0.32
Applied balance -$0.32
Amount due $0.00 USD
In fact, this solve the very issue, and many others.
If the requestor had virtual card attached to their storj account, they would simply cancel the card, abandon the account and live happily ever after.
You may not get the concept. It is not about debt at all. Let me give you some real-life examples:
Google offers one month free Youtube Premium, but they require you to provide your payment card. They will not charge you anything but they will test the card if it works so if you provide fake / non-existent card number it will not work. If you cancel the service by end of day 30, you are not charged anything. If you forget (and many people do, and that is the actual reason why they require you to share your card), you will get charged monthly fee. But if you share a One-off card, it will work just fine, and you don’t need to worry about the exact day to cancel the service. Youtube Premium will happily work for you and on the day 30 Google will ask you to provide new card since the current one doesn’t work any longer. Then you do nothing, hence you Premium gets cancelled by itself, and that’s it.
Example 2: An IPTV provider offers first 2 months for 1$. You have to provide your working card, get charged 1$ right away, and you will need to cancel the service exactly two weeks before end (that’s their real condition). If you miss the timeframe, you will be charged full price on day 61. But you used One-off card so you don’t care and your IPTV service will be cancelled by day 62 without any bullshits.
Obviously this concept is not working for example for Mobile phone provider where you sign a contract by your blood and the provider knows your full name, address, birth number / social number, employer, etc.
You get the point? The original requestor of this thread will eventually receive his 5$ back, but it will cost his time, and storj employees time, definitely cost more that such 5$, so storj would actually save some $ if the user would have used virtual card cancelled before got charged.
Yes, that is what many providers do, once you provide your card, you are not allowed to remove it until you provide another one. That’s why the card needs to be virtual, so you can create and cancel any number of Virtual Cards.
If your bank allows you to use virtual cards, replace the current one with new virtual one. If not, change your bank ![]()
On the contrary.
If you forget to cancel, you owe the monthly fee for that month. The fact that you failed to provide a payment method that works does not excuse the debt. They can keep billing you monthly, and then take you to court when accumulated debt makes it worth their time. Or immediately, just to make an example.
Same point. IPTV provider can sue you in small claims court or whaterver similar organization exists in where you live for the money you owe them.
So you are basically saying you only honor contracts if the threat of enforcement is above a certain threshold? WHen you sign up for trial you are signing a contract.
This mental gymnastics does not justify the fraud you are attempting to commit: give a non-working payment method to a provider to be able to unilaterly break the contract.
No, that’s not how it works. And that’s why such consumer services [google, Microsoft, Xbox game pass, Spotify, …] are paid before providing. If you don’t pay your account is cancelled and no debt ever can happen. Some service give you day or 2 extra, while others will stop providing by the end of the last day and bye bye…
i checked and i can created virtual card and will be using this option in future for this kind of service
This depends on a service provider and is not universal, even with prepaid services. Reading the specific contract would be required to understand each specific case.
But either way, providing knowing bad payment method is on the spectrum form being bad form to illegal.
You may open this invoice to see for what you have charged. Likely you have had some buckets.
This is mean, that every month Stripe marked these invoices with non zero usage as paid, because the sum is below their minimum charge threshold.
The last invoice has been attempted to pay all debts with a one single $5 minimum monthly charge. Not additional $5, but including all your debts.
Providing a not working payment method is no more possible (and was not in the past - Stripe rejecting prepaid/virtual cards), and you will be charged when you upgrade, the charged sum will be added as a credit balance to your account, so they remain useful.
However having a not working payment method on file adds additional hurdles to the accounting and the support team, so please, do not advise to use a one-time payment method for Storj, we will very appreciate that.
