You want to have some free space available for tradh/deleted files and any data not accounted for. Otherwise you could bottom out the drive and corrupt your databases, not to mention take your node offline.

I believe these nodes doesn’t have this amount of free space actually due to the same discrepancy.
The upload will stop, if your node has less than 500MB left

Storage nodes are executing the used space calculation only once on startup. From there the storage node is keeping and updating used space and free space in memory. The storage node should notify the satellite below 500MB free space.
