@daki82 We had a few glitches during the latest updates.
Thank you for alerting us to the errors you are encountering.
I also can’t edit posts at the moment.
Remediation and testing are in progress now.
Everyone: please use this thread to report issues until all is resolved
OK. It looks like the EDIT/post issue is fixed after running an upgrade.
Yes! It worked ![]()
Thank you @pfaffman
Our posts are gone from Storj.io major design overhaul?
It’s possible that posts are missed since the backup date.
Yes it looks like this is what happened
Backup DB was few hours old which lead to missing posts.
Why taking this hassle? why don’t this Storj forum just move to discord? You don’t have to migrate entirely. Just keep the data till now in this forum as is, in case people need access to old posts and move to discord from this point of time.
It’s more modern, user friendly and way easier to manage a community discord server than this forum. Isn’t it?
100% Wrong.
You can find posts as old as this forum which is not true for discord. In our forum, you have categories where you can search and get results while discord is a mess and a constant bait for scams. We had rocket chat before discourse and it was really hard to maintain and search for anything.
Well that is not true…..
You have channels in discord that you can search content for, just similar to what you are mentioning for category in this forum.
“a constant bait for scams”……well you can tackle that by having moderators and assigning active community members to be the moderators is even popular nowadays…..there will be scams everywhere….moderators can help ban those…….Also, add verification step while joining the server to make it more secure.
You can find posts in discord as long as it is not deleted. If some posts are of such importance, you can pin them in the channel…….
all the web3 projects are mostly on discord and may be you had some bad experience with some technologies in the past but nowadays discord servers are way more organized and more community-friendly than the forum thing.
Hey @arrogantrabbit how can you be so sure?
I am a legit Storj node operator and being with Storj since the very beginning…..
I always wondered why they stick to this forum style instead of adopting the way communities are communicating like discord……
Since this post came to my attention…i asked the question. What is wrong with this?
The format of discussion is vastly different, discord is not suitable for long in-depth thoughful discussion like it is possible on discourse. It is optimized for real-time chat. Nobody cares about real time responses in tech conversations; on the contrary, you want to take time and think through the response.
The discussions on discord are not indexed by the search engines – the is a dealbreaker right there, we can stop discussing at this point. It’s a no go.
Why would that matter at all? Everyone does it so shall we? The worst justification possible.
Elaborate here. I see it vastly less friendly. For one, I have to create an account (and to get any usability, install an app - lol right there from me. I’m not doing that) to read anything. This is a problem already. It does not support proper threading. Flat channels are not suitable for these type of discussions. It’s simply not designed for the type of use we need here. It’s more suitable for transient realtime discussions.
And on topic of maintenance – moderators already have their hands full as it is, with non-realtime platform. Imagine their workload on realtime one…
Because you are familiar with discord it seems, so it all shall be obvious to you, or so I thought, so the post is just to stir the waters.
I am a legit Storj node operator and being with Storj since the very beginning…..
Legit storj node operators cannot post troll posts? Why?
discord is not suitable for long in-depth thoughful discussion like it is possible on discourse
That’s not true. In fact your perception about discord is somewhat the opposite of what it is today.
It is optimized for real-time chat.
Yes, it is. and including all the good old forum kinda features post preserving, thread creation, category separation through channels……you need to dig in to know the good things in it. instead of just negating it by standing far away.
Nobody cares about real time responses in tech conversations;
That is not correct and kinda outdated thinking. The tech world has evolved quite far and most of the people now cares about and appreciate more in a sense, the real time responses whenever and wherever available/offered.
The discussions on discord are not indexed by the search engines
It is designed to be private and closed platform so it is not indexed by the search engines. If any material need to be publicly available or need to be indexed, put them in the Storj website as blog, or keep this forum for publishing such support material.
we can stop discussing at this point. It’s a no go
I am sorry who are you to decide that it’s a no go
Why would that matter at all? Everyone does it so shall we? The worst justification possible.
No, it’s not about “Everyone does it so shall we” its about where the tech trend is going and it’s important to “go with the flow” to keep up with the trend.
I see it vastly less friendly
That’s totally your personal opinion and i cannot help you with that unless you wanna really see what it is.
And on topic of maintenance – moderators already have their hands full as it is, with non-realtime platform. Imagine their workload on realtime one…
yes that is kind of a thought process that always came across all the changes over time, isn’t it?
when computer came into practice…..
when internet first introduced…..
then when people start adopting cloud…..
sounds kinda familiar….don’t you think?
like the maintenance they have to do here, they won’t have to do it there. its already a managed-service by the discord so no maintenance, no backup, no screw-up. Instead they can focus their energy on moderating the content, helping the Storj community to grow even more and keeping away the scammers.
By the way, no one is obligated to respond right away at this moment. if they cannot or don’t want to, they can keep their distance…..but the community would be more connected.
Legit storj node operators cannot post troll posts? Why?
Because a legit SNO would care about this project and trolling isn’t a way to support the project that you care for.
The Forum will remain on Discourse for the foreseeable future.
Discord is not appropriate for the needs of the Forum at this time. Some good examples of why have been provided by others above.
We appreciate your suggestions, but there will be no change at this time.
To expound on what Bree just posted, in case it is not sufficiently clear, we want our forum to be indexed, and will not spend extra time to convert conversations in discord threads into blog posts or maintain a parallel discourse forum and discord instance just so that the info can be found easily.
We will not spend extra resources for the extensive moderation and installation of anti scammer and spam filters needed to maintain a “forum” on discord.
Just these 2 points above are enough reason for us not to switch to discord. You are free to create and maintain your own discord and invite interested users and have all the discussions about Storj you want there.
Exactly. Just the need to be indexed makes Discord a nonstarter.
you need to dig in to know the good things in it.
Why should I or anyone else waste time with this? Discourse works. What problem does Discord solves that forum faces today, that cannot be solved in-place?
The tech world has evolved quite far and most of the people now cares about and appreciate more in a sense, the real time responses whenever and wherever available/offered.
You can do that with discourse as well.. It would not be appreciated, if you rush typing without thinking, but you can.
Returning your sentiment: if you spent more time on discourse-driven forums you would understand how laughable is discord in comparison. But why do that when you already have an agenda.
The tech world has evolved quite far and most of the people now cares about and appreciate more in a sense,
Lol
Have stats to show? Nobody in my environment cares about discord. Teenage gamers do. But thats’ a different crowd.
I am sorry who are you to decide that it’s a no go
A bit hypocritical thing to say for a dude who pushes closed platform so hard.
I just explained to you why it is a no-go.
and it’s important to “go with the flow” to keep up with the trend.
What are you, 12, to care about “trend”? You do what you think is right, regardless of what thosands of lemmings around you do.
That’s totally your personal opinion and i cannot help you with that unless you wanna really see what it is.
Why should I want to spend time to keep checking what it is? I have better things to do with my time. And so do all other people around here.
yes that is kind of a thought process that always came across all the changes over time, isn’t it?
when computer came into practice…..
when internet first introduced…..
then when people start adopting cloud…..
sounds kinda familiar….don’t you think?
I think you need to read up on logical fallacies.
By the way, no one is obligated to respond right away at this moment. if they cannot or don’t want to, they can keep their distance
This already works.
but the community would be more connected.
You meant to say “closed”. Community will end up being more closed. Because there won’t be search engine traffic. What do you get in return?
Because a legit SNO would care about this project and trolling isn’t a way to support the project that you care for.
And here you are pushing an ill-suiting platform, not addressing objections and only offering “you have to be trendy and move with times for no reason” justification… Who is causing harm here, wasting everyone’s time?
