Had a very big brainfart... it smells very bad

a clone of storj for those that truly dont care about payment…..

can be done with storj also, but as i sad, brainfart

Sometimes its ok to take a break and head out for a long walk when intrusive thoughts try to overwhelm you

I like the idea but unfortunately storj is extremely centralized. Even without payment we would need a wealthy and reliable sponsor for all that satellite, database and gateway stuff.

You can already share enough used-space to cover your Storj bill - if you want to be revenue-neutral. Like @alpharabbit said: you still need somebody to cover satellite costs.

yeahhh, as i said its a brainfart of a bit larger proportions, but just curious, how wealthy ?

Cut down - no S3 gateway. Don’t think require too much (depending on network size).

Support is going to be required though. Easy enough to spin up a satellite (and needed services), but there are many, many config options, and very little documentation.

Its been mentioned that India has its own Storj network.

that was more or less also my thought

indeed, makes it complex, and why ?

Its a complex thing Storj does.

yes, but the config does not have to be, undocumented only makes it worse

Storj sell Data Storage. Not in there best interest to make it easy. They would probably love to help you, at a cost.

i might misunderstand you, but you seem pissed off somehow?

Too much spare time today @boelle ?

yeah… i’m on a disability pension so yeah loads of “idle” time
renovating the house at the same time thou, one room at a time

Sorry to hear that, hope you are coping alright!

I can see how that would require some well deserved breaks and thus time for deep thoughts

Well, I like the challenge so on a serious node;

Why would you consider this?
To provide space for strangers or for yourself?
What level of redundancy would be required?

A single point of failure / non-redundant setup could probably be build with quite limited resources, especially if it’s not for “the entire internet” and no S3-GW.

Not pissed off or annoyed.
Chemo 3 days ago. Warps the mind a bit.

its ok, its due to autism but in the very mild end so i mange

its like kirk in startrek, why climb the mountain… because its there
both
same level as storj or close to it, but since this is now fully without payment the “system” would have to tolerate that nodes just drops off wihout any notice… again a fart in my head and not much thought to it

yeah the folks across the street has cancer but no chance for cure, so yeah the man there has his mood swings, hell i would have too if i where told that i have an expire date but its not quite known

hmmm… if anything to show that more satelittes can be added without much “fuzz”, but some thought has to be put in to it….

ie total decentral is not possible as there has to be set some way/rules or whatever that says how to a satellite can gain trust…

but yeah the idea would be to show that the system can be scaled and people can be more than just a storage node….

hmm… hope that made sense, english is not my native language

And medication that’s trying to kill you, as much as it’s trying to help you. This list of side effects are mind blowing - but it’s worth it - for the extra time.

Anyway, as you can tell, I’ve had a similar thought, been playing with satellite dev setup a little bit.

what would have been nice is that in the config there should have been a comment on each that says what the config does etc, so that you would have an clear idea

or a webinterface where you change the config… but i guess they do some fancy API calls to do that

for the fun of it i did a clone of their github repro and started to remove things that had anything to do with payment, but i keept the rest for now, so audits etc are still the same
