My nodes are not growing either. So I thinks it’s just a network thing. I am stuck at 20 tb too
That sounds like something you should open in a support ticket… instead of just hoping it gets read in a forum post. Hopefully you can keep your old price until Nov: Good Luck!
Other than the date of the price change though, the rest of your post sounds like a crying toddler rolling around on the floor, demanding a pony. You have one simple ask of Storj Support: skip the theatrics ![]()
A very important CEO of the company freaking out and losing sleep over $50 and confusing ui facing message, then proceeds to threaten legal action on a user forum, while demanding support on the same user forum.
What do you expect to happen now?
Once you threaten legal action, this is no longer a community support discussion. At that point nobody on the forum should be expected to help you debug billing state or UI messaging. You moved it to legal/commercial escalation yourself.
Your avenue as a customer is to ask support. If I were storj support I would dropped you as a customer the second you threaten legal action. Nobody needs this performative circus
As others have already mentioned, please file a support ticket so we can look into your issues. Please note that you must file said support ticket using the same email address that you used to register your account so we can find your account information. Posting on the forum using a random email address not related to any Storj account is not helpful in getting your case resolved.
You may also consider reading the new pricing FAQ where your concern regarding the minimum fee is already answered.
If you have not opted in to the new pricing before the end of this month, your account will be deleted as stated clearly in our communications.
Also note that you can review your account without having to opt in to the new pricing first. We are sorry if this was not clear from the “Decide Later” option at the bottom of the opt in dialog. If you have further questions we will be happy to discuss when we receive your support ticket.
As we all see, client support is not your best. Please consider from comment like this. Some times clients use not proper channels, just because they know it and used before. Most business will freak out from message like this, not because of 50 usd, but because you use as expected, but you see message and it can be a bug. you data will frozen or deleted. This will be a disaster for a company.
No. I appreciate your advice, but I will not empathize with this behavior.
It’s entitlement, poor reading comprehension, CEO status-posturing, and performative escalation.
On your points:
This was not a familiar channel. It was a brand new forum account.
Yes, it could have been a bug. It wasn’t. The minimum-fee concern was already answered in the FAQ, and the dialog already had a “Decide Later” path to review the account without opting in. User gave up reading, escalated to legal threats, then demanded public support from an unrelated account. A confusing UI banner is not a “catastrophic failure”. Catastrophic failure would be losing data because company infrastructure depended on one cloud account, one UI interpretation, and no competent backup plan.
It is also ironic that they illustrated exactly the kind of customer behavior Storj claimed the $50 minimum was intended to address among other things. High noise, high drama, high support burden helping them read, low revenue. No sane company wants to deal with that.
(I also do not subscribe to the notion that every customer is precious. Most are not.)
They demanded public attention, received public answers, then deleted the post after three replies. I have particular disdain for people who use a public support forum as disposable free labor, then delete the post and damage the discussion for everyone else.
deleted post
I am a long-term user and the CEO of a company that utilizes Storj for data storage. I am currently being met with a “confirm $50/mo or be suspended/face data deletion” ultimatum in the UI, alongside a prompt that would have hoped to coerce me into making this choice upon logging in.
This represents a catastrophic failure of both policy and communication for three specific reasons:
-
The STORJ Token Exemption
Your own “Notice to Node Operators” states: “All accounts paying with STORJ token are completely exempt from the $50 minimum monthly fee.” I pay exclusively in STORJ tokens and maintain a positive balance. Why am I being threatened with account and data deletion? -
Breach of the 2025 Commitment
On September 10, 2025, Storj sent a written commitment stating: “Your existing projects created before November 1, 2025, will remain at your current pricing through October 31, 2026.” My projects are legacy projects. Overriding this with a July 1st suspension threat is a breach of service terms; furthermore, it completely preempts the previously communicated changes. -
Predatory Communication
Displaying a “Data will be deleted” banner to accounts that are explicitly exempt (token payers) and grandfathered (legacy projects) is predatory and indicative of bad faith.
It is disappointing that the company — rather than the node operators who provide the storage backbone and the very foundation of Storj’s existence — is attempting to justify such an exorbitant minimum price increase.
This situation has taken time away from my family, as I have had to personally investigate this matter, navigate the forums, and eventually discover that the situation was not as dire as the UI suggested, thanks only to a narrow margin of error in your messaging.
I do not take the threat of data deletion lightly. Make no mistake: this is grounds for arbitration. That reality was only narrowly avoided tonight. As a consumer, I have successfully arbitrated against major entities like Coinbase and won. Predatory behavior has no place in Web3.
I have been active in the Web3 space longer than Storj has existed. While I fully support decentralized solutions, my confidence in Storj specifically is eroding rapidly.
Because of this belligerently inept conduct and the resulting uncertainty, I have already begun copying data to an alternative storage provider, which is something I had no plans of doing or paying for previously.
To the Storj Team:
- Fix the UI: Update the interface to accurately reflect exemptions for Storj token payers.
- Honor Commitments: Respect the October 31, 2026, grandfathering date for legacy projects.
- Provide Confirmation: Explicitly confirm that my data will not be “frozen” or “deleted” on July 1st.
I have documented every page of this “ultimatum” and will be seeking a formal explanation from your board if this is not resolved immediately.
Oh, I didn’t even notice! He went from a first-post demanding change and threatening litigation… to a deleted account in less than 24h. That’s quite the speed-run!
And he talked big about being a CEO: can you imagine working for that level of crazy? His poor staff…
here I will even agree with you.
What is happening or has happend?

Comments from the thread:
This all great but I already moved
Wayyyy too late for that. I already migrated elsewhere and deleted all my data.
Me2, this company is a joke.
The snark in the replies from Storj to customers objecting to how quickly this happened was pretty disturbing.
Screw you storj!! It was obviously not an error and you’ve lost our trust.
I don’t know what to say…
Performative door slamming because of perception of free cake disappearing is not a new behaviour on reddit.
Those are not target audience. They are noisy however.
But questions remain:
- Did Storj decide to exempt TrueNAS customers from the new $50 minimum fee?
- Have those users been informed adequately or was this a decision made after the innitial announcement and why?
- Have those user been put into the deletion queue/process like notification about upcoming deletion and maybe even deletion (like it had already happened in the past)
Maybe. But as SNO I don’t want Storj users to leave and move their data away from Storj. Even more if it happens by mistake that might be avoidable.
I don’t think all users are equally valuable. Users that jump ship and slam the door publicly over an email or lack thereof would have found another reason to leave in the future anyway.
I don’t disagree that storj communication can be (sometimes significantly) improved. I just despise the reddit performative outrage over inconsequentials.
Backblaze corrupts data and wasabi is 501 most of the year — that’s ok. But storj sent email in a wrong tone or did not send one — and it’s a basis for Reddit drama.
yea, but however looks like some miss information email has forced several people to migrate elsewhere in hurry, sooo can’t blame them this time i guesss.
Maybe that was a sabotage lol
Despite drama the real key there is this quote
“I won’t complain. I just won’t come back.”
We know from research most will never bother to complain. They’ll just walk away.
A number with a source that I have found is that only 1 out of 26 unsatisfied customers complain the rest churn. I had a lower number in my head and with Reddit that makes it easy to complain the number is probably even lower now.
But if let’s say for 1 customer who complains on Reddit 10 leave silently. It is still not great. And that is the real issue.
I don’t know the size of the TrueNAS by Storj group. But if all of them were affected and misplaced onto the wrong tier and threatened to have their data deleted on short notice, that is really bad.
And what is even worse is losing trust. Not from a single action or failure but with continously bad communication, mistakes and silence. At the end that leads to the question: Shall I trust this company with my data?
And another point: I believe TrueNAS is a Storj reseller. Do you know what this means? It means customers moving away from Storj will also affect the resellers revenue and can erode trust. Wow. This is really really bad…
This is why I do not recommend to use Reddit for any marketing activities
Yes, we regret that inital email being sent incorrectly and are working hard to ensure customers are taken care of, happy, and successful with our services. Reddit is Reddit, it’s far from representing how the majority feel. As someone who is actively working the help desk I can tell you the majority of users are happy and we have not lost profitable customers.
All TrueNAS users are currently exempt from the $50 fee. In the future, we will work with TrueNAS to launch a new starter package, for now nothing will change for that great partner and their users.
It’s not just Reddit:
I’m not happy. My reason (or hope) for using Storj was that I could prepay and forget about it. Not even read my email. Hoping the service leans more towards decentralization in the future, not less. So obviously my main issue is the possibility of account deletion.
I received a similar but different “no panik” email after contacting the support. Exempt from the fee, but doubling down on the account deletion. The support triple confirmed my account deletion.
Where I live it’s mostly legal to change prices without making users say “yes, thank you”. It’s breaking earlier promises, but still better than nothing. I’d probably even pay up if my balance was suddenly negative and there was no other bad suprises.
I would have been more open to more complex pricing. Like paying for storage and support (satellite usage and development, etc) separately.
So I’m out too. Hope the refund process is smoother. Though there was already some sus language happening as if I was still hodling
. Could be wrong but I always thought I paid in STORJ which they sold and had $ balance since then.
To clarify, if you were to opt in to the new pricing, just as has been the case before the new pricing announcement, as long as your account is sufficiently funded to cover invoices with either STORJ token or a backup credit card, there is no danger of your account being suddenly suspended. If you have no valid payment method on file at time of invoicing, you will receive reminders to first warn you of impending account freezing (this does not mean your account will be immediately deleted) and if you still do not react after another grace period, eventually the account would get deleted. Our grace periods are quite generous, customers have plenty of time to get their outstanding invoices paid and the account reinstated. However, I don’t believe any company will allow you to stop paying for their services for extended time periods without taking action. I don’t think it is reasonable to expect us to continue providing services for extended time periods without getting paid. This would be an invitation for malicious actors to take advantage.
Regarding STORJ token deposits, they get credited to your account at the current US Dollar exchange rate at time of deposit. Your account’s balance from STORJ token deposits is kept in terms of USD and is not affected in any way by STORJ token price fluctuations after you made your deposit.
If I’m not opting in, I get deleted.
I wouldn’t expect Storj to offer any grace normally. Only for the gap when the price was set for a period and the account was funded accordingly.
