Migration of nodes to another datacenter

Hi there,

I have planned the migration of my services to another datacenter. This is a difficult task and I setup new equipment in order to migrate the services to the new datacenter, before I disassemble the hardware from the rack. But the STORJ nodes is not easy to be migrated over the internet connection, as it will take ages to synchronize the data between the two datacenters.

I am thinking of just shut them down and powering up (and configuring) again in the new datacenter. But that is a three-days downtime, since I will power them off on Friday the 20th of June (morning) and could be again up and running on Monday the 23rd (morning/noon), since the hardware will travel from Helsinki (Finland) to Paderborn (Germany).

So here is my critical question. How many days can the nodes be down without being disrupted? Would it last these 3 days? Also one of my nodes was 3 days down already, because of a problem with the docker on the Synology storage. Now that node shows 93.58 % availability. Up to which percentage it can go?

Thanks a lot in advance for your prompt replies.

With kind regards,
Angelos Pitsos

Nodes can survive 30 days offline. Stats will go down but recover later. So no problem with your plan.

Hey @alpharabbit,

That’s really great news! Thank you so much for clarifying that. It was a huge concern to me.

Wishing you a great day!

would 3 days get a suspension, if not a disqualification though?

If a node started with 100%-uptime… it would take 12 days to become suspended (to go down to 60%-uptime). Then if it can’t get back up over 60% in the next 30 days it gets disqualified permanently.

So OP having the node down 3 days is nothing.

Hey @Roxor,

Thanks a lot for this more detailed clarification. One of my nodes was already 3 days down. But since you calculate 12 days in total, I guess another 3 days will not be a problem.

Thanks a lot!
