So idk how to do this my bro did the troubleshooting but now he ion wanna. basically i switched ISP and ip changed node is down what to do? my bro seemingly made it run for a bit then it died i cant ssh on my phone wanna try on my PC anyone help in noob ive already invested money into this i cant back out.
You are not supposed to invest money to run storagenode. It makes sense onlly if you already had available already online capacity.
- check that you still have a public IP. Since it worked brifly, likely you do have it.
- Check that your port forwarding rule is setup correclty to forward to the correct server in the LAN. If you replaced the gateway as part of conneccting to new ISP your LAN deviece will get a new IP.
- Check that your DDNS is correclty udpated to your new public IP, force-update it if it did not. How to do it will depend on what DDNS updater are you using.
P.S. Please start writing in full sentences with punctuation and proper grammar. It was amusing in the begining, but it does not help get efficent help and may be considered by some as disrespectful.
You’re speakibg to a 14 year old what do you expect. 1. we got public IP the router port forwarding doesn’t need ur public ip adress only private it handles the public automatically
no DDNS updater (what that is) i think i never run it using it
1.Do you have access to the router’s web interface?
2.if yes, than login to it and write down the WAN IP displayed (public IP, that dosen’t start with 192.168… or 10.0…).
3.unplug the router from the power outlet and wait 5-10min.
4.power back on the router and check back the WAN IP.
Is it the same as the first one?
If yes, you are lucky; you have a fix WAN IP.
If isn’t, you have to use a DDNS service, like noIP. Google both terms to familiar yourself with this stuff. You should spend some time to learn about networking, because it’s not rocket sience and it will help you the entire life in many situations.
Here’s a good free course:

You have 30 days to get back online, but you start to loose data after 4 hours of downtime.
I have Fixed. what more shall i do?.
Also SSH remotely doesn’t work what should i do ill learn after i get this runinng i cant drive a car and learn how to.
It works locally but not nonlocally and also i did Port forward 192.168.0.103 (the node) and 255678 and etc etc when im there what commands should i run
That’s your problem then.
Your node reports to satellites where to find it, by sending them then FQDN (fully qualified domain name) and port. This is configured in the config.yml file, or in the docker command line, gor wherever you are running the node.
If you have static IP, you shall configure that FQDN to point to your static IP.
Likely though your ISP issues you dynamic IP address, that can change any time. Something needs to keep that FQDN pointing to your ever changing public IP.
Otherwise your node will not be reachable.
Check your node configuration for what are you using as external address?
It’s a good idea to use DDNS updater even if you use static IP — for cases like these where you change the provider, so you don’t have to go mess with configuration when your static ip changes, if you used the static IP as external address in your node config.
Start with providing details about your setup, configuration, what have you done specifically, and what did not work, and what troubleshooting you have already done and where are you stuck. Nobody has a crystal ball.
That is not a valid test. Any DHCP server will try to issue the same address to the same MAC.
This is not a reliable way to test this. Some providers have a fix ip for 24hours and then force reconnect you, to give you a new one. You have to at least check at two different day (and a restart of the router too), to be sure that you have a fixed ip
So i bought A PC for 20 dollars on fb and a drive from tradera (swedish marketplace)
i5 3450
11gb 4gbx2 + 3gb ddr3 ram
4tb hdd 5700 ultrastar hgst
250gb ssd boot drive
pc lenovo thinkcentre e91 sff
250/250mpbs fiber isp: bredband2 using cat5e cable
my bro confuged the ports on the router (ax72 tplink)
we running docker on it with ubuntu. yeah please help me more guys im a big noob ( ill learn later) my node is burning. i guess my external is . it would be fire if yall were to ssh into it and fix it for me (yay free tech supoort!)
bro we portforwarded external ip (on my previous isp router before i switched to personal router) and we run for 1 month before we switched isp (and now my node is failing to run storj)
We don’t know your level of knowledge, so if we tell you basic stuff, just say thanks. We just trying to help you… voluntarly.
Don’t post your public IP on forums; edit and remove that. A skilled hacker might take you as target, and you don’t want that.
Someone from the WAN to be able to SSH to your machine, it needs the SSH port of the PC forwarded in your router. DON’T DO THAT! See above about the hacker part. Every port you forward in your router becomes open for everyone on the Internet. That’s how systems get hacked, usualy.
First off, in order to run a storage node, you need to learn/know how to install the software, mantain it, change settings, debug it.
If you don’t dive in this knowledge, better you don’t run the node in the first place.
Read the docs, google what you don’t understand and ask on the forum after you familirised yourself with it. Will help you debug the problems and ask the proper questions to get the proper answears.
When you post code on the forum, or any preformated text, click the button for preformatted text and paste the text between those thics. It helps us read it better.
Paste the docker run command, masking with xxx personal data, like email, wan IP, wallet address.
Download the router’s manual from TP Link site and see page 62; it’s about port forwarding.
These functionalities must stay off; they interfere with storj software:
Yeah, in theory you’re both right, but in practice, having 3 different ISPs and many locations with dynamic IP, I never got the same IP even after a router reboot. Maybe it’s just the way my countrymen know to setup things.
Here, most isp’s your “dynamic” ip stays the same until you request a change, but is stated that it may change at any time.
Mine changes once every 6 months.
I guess the only reliable way to tell is - are you paying for static IP? If not — you don’t have a static ip.
On the other hand, whether you have a static ip or not is irrelevant. Just setup DDNS anyway.
He knows his external IP. Use whatsmyip.org or something to verify.
Changed router?
Is storjnode machine static or dynamic?
Does it’s IP change after reboot?
It has possibly changed with new router.
Have your forwarded correct port to correct internal IP address?
Set contact.external-address to externalip:Port# in config.xml of storjnode.
Restart node.
When working, setup ddns server (from known working provider) and update contact.external-address to ddns name.
Thank yall for helping me a noob.
the ip is static i guess cause it always stayed on .13 and i dont use DDNS and i ssh into the PC . hey guys wouldn’t it be easier i take home the PC flash windows and run storj that way cause its way easier that way?
no problelms im thankful. no i dont have homeshield all that
