I was curious if there is a timeline or date when the network may return to a more “normal” status. For a couple of months now the network has been writing and deleting huge amounts of data. Until now, my ISP has been forgiving but 2 months in a row I’ve pulled down 100TB plus causing them to throttle me back to 4TB per month. Prior to the testing, I was doing about 4-5 TB per month. I know it’s hard to estimate when the results StorJ is looking for are met but is there any timeframe on the books?
This is my concern as well, my ISP already throttle my internet connection down, now I only able get 10MB download consistently (sometime 3-4MB).
However I’m surprised with 100TB ingress 2 months in a row your nodes are not filled yet. Were they empty back when you were seeing 4TB/mo ingress?
It goes up then it go down, as test data, I expect that much. But if sign with customer with real data with this usage pattern, will become a conflict of interest with ISP provider.
My nodes have been filled with data deleted and filled again over and over. I keep adding drives to accommodate the influx of data but am leery of adding more now. I’ve had a large stash of drives but am now running low. Not looking to opt out of this but more interested in what the intent is and how long it will last. For the time, I moved all my nodes back to my office which is truly unlimited data. I just had several at my home because I was doing a lot of configuration testing of my own.
Vyve Broadband is here in Central Texas. The fine print on the contract says service is limited to 4tb. But of course when I signed up for service I asked the “Unlimited” question but the rep said it was unlimited period. The normal charges is $10 per 50GB after that so I’m thankful they just throttled me back to 100mb in July.
Technically, your internet isn’t stopped from downloading any data so its “unlimited”. Throttling comes under their Fair Usage Policy guidelines where other users aren’t affected by major bandwidth used by certain users.
