New User – API key option not available Under Access Keys

I’m trying to configure a Storj bucket and create both an access token and get a satellite address so I can use Storj as an endpoint for the Duplicacy backup program.

I’ve read a dozen different tutorials, and looked closely at the Storj documentation, and ALL of them tell me that after creating a bucket (which I’ve done) I should be able to go to Access Keys (which I’ve done) and there should be 3 options there. Multiple web pages, including Storj docs, even show an image of all 3 options:

  1. S3 credential
  2. Access Grant
  3. API Key

But that third option is not there for me. I can create a key, and copy/download it, but there’s no satellite address.

I’m sure I’m missing something simple, but after spending an hour to do what the Storj sign-up says will take 5 minutes, I’m at the end of my rope.

What am I missing?

Do you not see above modal when you click New Access Key under Access Keys section ?

Thanks for the super-quick reply!

And that is correct: the third option is just literally not there

Additional info, in case it’s useful:

  • I am on the free tier
  • I have configured the CLI and can use uplink to create a list a bucket (no change)
  • I have tried accessing the Storj dashboard from multiple web browsers (no change)

In that case, maybe the API feature is tied to the PRO account. Its enabled when you add your credit card.

Makes logical sense. Just surprised no one mentioned it before.

I’ll upgrade my account and mark this as the solution if that fixes it.

Thanks again.

No luck.

I now have a Pro account, but when I go to Access Keys there’s still no API option.

Try to re-login and make sure to clear your cache.

It’s bizarre. I’ve tried 4 different browsers on 3 different computers/devices, and I’ve cleared cache multiple times.

No matter what I do I get the same as I showed in the earlier screenshot – the only two options I get are “S3 Credentials” and “Access Grant.”

I figured it out: when I created the project I set the project encryption to “automatic.”

I just created a new project with manual encryption, and now I get the API option for access keys.

As far as I can tell, this is not documented anywhere: all the docs, and every discussion I read indicated that the API key was always an option.

When the project configured to use a managed passphrases, then API Key option is not available.
