PORT Forwarding problems

Hello.

After a recent upgrade of my internet connection my openvpn/portmap won’t connect anymore. it would connect if i use it with another vpn software, but now that “trick” doesn’t work anymore.

For now, i want to use purevpn, but i have no clue how to setup port forwarding using this software.

Hope someone can help.

Are you sure PureVPN supports port forwarding? There are only a few VPNs that do, for example PIA. So unless the software supports port forwarding, you will not be able to use it to run a storage node.

it’s always mentioned by alexy when he suggest vpn’s w/ portforwarding.

In that case he would be the one to be able to help you set it up  or you could try searching their support documentation on the purevpn website.

I would like to suggest to remove the connection on portmap.io and re-create it again. It will give you another address and config, which you can use in your setup instead of old connection.

Regarding port forwarding with PureVPN: https://support.purevpn.com/how-to-activate-port-forwarding-on-windows

Did that in purevpn, still not working. Good news though as openvpn/portmap is working again. my node is still showing offline but i’ll wait for a couple of hours and update here. Thanks again alexey…

Still showing offline… i’m pretty sure everything is set-up correctly…

Perhaps not. Please, check that your portmap.io port is open: https://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/
Specify your portmap.io address in the Remote address field and your portmap.io port in the Port Number, then click Check.

If port is closed, make sure that your OpenVPN connection is established.
Also, check your ADDRESS option (in case of Docker) or contact.external-address: in the "C:\Program Files\Storj\Storage Node\config.yaml" configuration file (in case of Windows GUI) contains your portmap.io address with port.
Make sure that your port mapping is -p 28967:28967 in case of Docker. For Windows GUI it’s a default port in the server.address: option already.

It’s showing closed. could this be the problem?

but it does say it’s connected and running…

Please, reinstall the OpenVPN client.

A post was split to a new topic: Should I specify the total allocated bandwidth in bytes?

okay, new question on this, and it’s related to no-ip and my router.

To set up a second node here at home:

  1. Can I use the same hostname on No-IP?
  2. When setting up the port forwarding on my router, I can only denote a single DDNS provider and hostname as seen below:

So ultimately, my question is, does the following seem correct?

yes you can use the same no ip address for both because its routing the same public IP address.

You can try using expressvpn if purevpn is not working for you. The manual configurations are quite easy.

my openvpn is down again…lol oh well…

edit: it’s running again but i have to have another vpn running to make it connect…

Your advertised solution doesn’t help, I do not see the port forwarding option

I have the same issue indeed the IP “193.161.193.99” is blocked in my country that is why i could not connect and i think u have the same problem

Not sure if the service provide a port forwarding option. I use Ivacy VPN for port forwarding and split tunneling.

Hello @viratvedant,
Welcome to the forum!

You can check their site. It must be explicitly described. Since you are not sure you can assume that they are not.
