Though, AWS is a “strategic partner and investor” of Huggingface. Not saying this blocks the idea altogether, but it may turn out that egress is effectively sponsored for Huggingface by AWS. I know that AWS gives pretty big discounts to just large customer even with no special relations, for example, it’s absolutely natural to get 30-50% discounts on EC2 this way. On top of that, look at their own pricing: their largest repository offer is 8 USD/TB/month for storage with included 8× egress—that’s less than they’d be paying Storj for the same.

If I were them, I’d probably turn their download client into a bittorrent client instead :grin: Curiously, AWS S3 used to offer bittorrent protocol for downloads. The API is still there, even if it is deprecated or killed for a long time anyway.
