Problems after upgrading storage space with a new drive

Hey Guys

I have been running a node for some weeks. The other day i decided to upgrade my storage and help the network even more. Before I used my C: SSD at 2 TB.
I wanted to have a separate drive for my node. then i bought a 14TB drive for StorJ only.

I did a copy of the entire Store node from C: And copy paste to my new drive D:

I removed the old install (using Windows Gui), like I have done 2 times before when i set it up for the first time. Then when i try to install the node again it get this message:

" There is a problem with this windows installer package. A program run as part om the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personelle or package vendor"

I have tried to reinstall at the new drive and the old one.

What im i douing wrong ?

Hi @Jesjor2, try the following:

Restart the PC.
Run Windows Updates.
Restart.
Re-download the installer package.

Solved it

I moved the installation folder to a new path, and that made it. But I don’t understand why i need to do this for making it work? What is wrong with the old data? I just changed path for where the date are stored?

But now I have been offline for 10 hours. Will the network then “fuck” me? :frowning:

Another question: Why is my maximum download only 3.8GB pr. day? I have 150/150 Mbit and can easily get 1000/1000Mbit. It’s like there are some kind of limit to how much data i’m allowed to store each day?

To change path you do not need to reinstall storagenode: How do I change values like wallet address or storage capacity? - Storj Docs
If you want to reinstall, you should remove the installation folder "C:\Program Files\Storj" and then install.
It’s made to protect your node from disqualification, when something changed after installation, like missed disk with data, corrupted OS and so on. The node will just crash to protect customers data and your earnings. When you reinstall (this is not normal operation), you should explicitly clear installation folder to confirm that you know what are you doing.
Because only during installation the storagenode will create all needed structure on disk with data and place there protected file with your NodeID.
If you would confuse folders with data (human error, it could happen when you run multiple nodes on the same PC), the node will not start, because there is a file with other NodeID.

Okay, thank you very much for this explanation

How about the data upfill time? It seams like there are some kind of limit on my connection?
It will take a long time to fill up 14 TB when it only download maximum 3.8GB pr day. I read some where some time ago its only the first month that it has a limit? Is that correct?

There is no limit like you described. But every node should be vetted. The unvetted node can receive only 5% of total customers’ traffic until got vetted. To be vetted on one satellite the node should pass 100 audits from it. With the current number of nodes it should take at least one and half month.
If you would have more than one node in the same /24 subnet of public IPs, it could take in the same amount of times longer as number of nodes (because they will share the same amount of traffic as a one node).

When your node would be vetted it’s not guaranteed that it will receive more traffic, it could be even lower:

Thank you some much  Feel so much more confident into this project and understand how it works. Im happy to see this evolve. !

Hi @Jesjor2,

That’s right. As you’re currently being vetted your figures are not exactly the final ones, but activity does vary a lot from month to month on vetted nodes also. Sometimes we receive a lot of data, sometimes way less… really depends on ongoing tests if any and what customers are doing on the network.
For the last couple of days, I was receiving roughly 15~20GB per day. But again, this can vary a lot.

So right now a 150/150 Mbps connection is way more than necessary for STORJ. No need to upgrade.

You may want to have a look at this community estimator to have an idea of what to expect for the coming months, copy the google spread sheet to your account and fill in your numbers:
