Set your alarms

Storj is trying to reduce the carbon footprints and not add to it

Is this the Axle announcement?
If so, is it an update sized update?

It would be really bad collaboration in communications, if Storj wants to reveal the news on the 10th and Axle pushes it out on the 8th.

So hopefully no.

There might be another hint that there is more to come:

Sooooo…

We are ready.

I think, if this takes an unprecedented flight to new levels then Storj should have a dedicated domain to it. Aptly, production-cloud (dot) io or production-cloud (dot) media

Just in case it went unnoticed:

But maybe even more interesting:

Lol, just announced: Update to Storj Object Storage pricing – what node operators need to know

Will Production Cloud content be stored on storj global or select network?

From this post:

It’s explained in details here:

Its a dynamic topic. Everything is changing quickly right now. By the time you read this it might already be outdated. Well not that fast but I hope you get the point.

From what I was reading the long term plan is to have 3 pricing tiers. global, regional and archive.

Our current product would behave more like the regional tier. Customer uploads a file and because of long tail cancelation most of the pieces will be stored on storage nodes that are relative close by. In addition we can also add geofencing or soc2 compliance. Depending on how strict the soc2 compliance needs to be that part would mean storj select. So we can say storj select will fall under the regional tier but the regional tier is more than just storj select.

In comparison the global tier would upload to more nodes and make sure they are spread all over the world. Lets make an simplified example. Lets say a customer has an office in the US and in the EU and would like to get best download performance in both locations. The regional tier gives already great performance but we can do better. If the uplink uploads to at least 29 nodes in the US + 29 nodes in the EU we can download in both locations from nodes that are close by. The nesessary code changes for that are already incoming. Up next we need to define the placement rules aka node selection for this tier.
The global tier would be perfect for production cloud content. For now I will skip explaining what production cloud content means? Lets say media production is getting globalized. And we are going to have the perfect cloud storage solution for that.

Archive tier is just a different pricing. I don’t expect special treatment there.

This change will take some time. I believe short term we will start without the regional tier and show only global and archive pricing.

Maybe some more information:

It seems that Storj Object Storage is transforming into a global performance cloud. That’s interesting.
