Solutions by industry

Just to following up on this one.
Storj is currently attending the DPP.
According to their information:

The DPP is the leading media industry association.

Our purpose is to bring together companies from the whole media supply chain to share knowledge, solve problems and create business opportunities.

I am convinced that almost every relevant industry has a similar association. And as almost every industry requires data storage solutions putting the focus only on media and entertainment is way too narrow.

A sugestion for the marketing department: Vera Rubin Observatory has the largest camera in the world and uses it to map the sky. It generates 20TB of data per 24h, with an estimate of 60PB in it’s 10 years life span.
Maybe they need some storage space? :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I shared this idea with the team.

Many industries probably almost any industry needs storage space and many move to the cloud:

Thanks for the suggestion!

I reached out to learn more about how they store it.

As their downloadable large images are on Google, that’s probably where they have the rest also, while direct raw data probably goes to hard drives first

Ouh I see there was already a topic on this. I just learned about that observatory from a sugested YT clip. They just started the observations, so dosen’t hurt to ask them again about storage needs.

There are many topics with many excellent ideas for Storj use cases.

Of course not.

Here is an interesting quote from the article linked above:

“One transformative technology for the EHT would be if we could send out raw data directly from the telescopes via high-speed communication link, such as via satellite laser relay, and bypass the need to move physical disks entirely,” Blackburn said.

If you read the article it becomes clear, they are looking for options e.g. cloud storage but also for replacing HDDs with SSDs. Storage needs do exist and that does not go away.

Maybe the blackhole image data still would be too big to upload but smaller ones and with Storj and the possible massive bandwidth it might be able to provide through parallelization for up- and downloads and maybe running their own gateways/satellites, it might be an awesome solution for this sector. Now add Object Mount so that they don’t have to download the whole thing every time they work on it, then at least it sounds like it could be something that could shine in that field.
