Right now the token functions more as a payout mechanism than a true utility token.

Why is this desired for a token that is used as a tool for doing payments? From the Storj Token Sale Terms

(d) You understand that the Tokens confer only the right to provide and receive Services in the Network and confer no other rights of any form with respect to the Network or Company or its corporate affiliates, including, but not limited to, any voting, distribution, redemption, liquidation, proprietary (including all forms of intellectual property), or other financial or legal rights;

(e) You are purchasing Tokens to provide or receive Services in the Network and to support the development, testing, deployment and operation of the Network. You are not purchasing Tokens for any other uses or purposes, including, but not limited to, any investment, speculative or other financial purposes;

The Storj token was never meant for and sold for speculation purposes. And it defeats the purpose of being used as payment if the value is fluctuating.

Incentives for holding — Staking or other mechanisms that let network contributors share in the platform’s growth, rather than just absorbing price volatility on payout day.

The current setup decouples token value from platform growth.

Exactly. All this due to a volatile token that has zero advantages for SNOs.

AFAIK has StorjLabs now sold all their tokens, and is now the (only/main) one buying from the market, to be able to pay SNOs.

This is the future. And it does not make sense. Imagine if they are buying at $0.2 and the token price drops when the want to send out payments.

Perhaps it would be possible for other companies to create a Satellite and use Storj tokens to pay the SNOs in an alternative way, outside StorjLabs (I’d love to see a EU native provider ? Not sure if StorjLabs has opened this up yet or ever will.

Idea, still not sure.... it may stink badly

so the idea has beens doing circles and donuts in my head for months now but in simple terms a community satellite with a twist, where the twist is the storage nodes are paid out via paypal in either Euro € or USD $ depending on where the storage node is located i would have put this in the project and stories category but of course that one is read only so that was a no go… are there a better fit? not sure i would change much on the customer side other than maybe set up pricing packages fo…
