Ubuntu node - access denied for docker commands

I have a few nodes running in Docker (without sudo) on Ubuntu Server rigs.
Lately, when I try to run some Docker commands on running nodes, like force forget satellite etc., I get acces denied.
I tryied with and without sudo.
The Docker is set to run as normal user (folowing the guide on Ubuntu/Docker pages), without sudo.
So when I SSH into it, I just put user, pass and then “docker xxx something” and it used to work. This is how I run the nodes.
I don’t know what changed lately, but I keep geting access denied for docker commands. I am afraid to stop and restart a node also, to not get the access denied on it.
The OS is set to autoupdate/upgrade with the official guide. I don’t use the rigs for anything else.
I also have AppArmor uninstalled since day one.
I’m not a Linux user, so any help is welcomed. I get that this is a topic for some Ubuntu support forum, but I have the best support team right here.
So thanks for any tips!

Is the error something like this?

docker: permission denied while trying to connect to the Docker daemon socket at unix:///var/run/docker.sock

Then you are looking for this:

# 1. Create the docker group if it doesn't exist
sudo groupadd docker

# 2. Add your current user ($USER) to the docker group
sudo usermod -aG docker $USER

# 3. Apply the changes immediately to your current shell
newgrp docker

(If it is not, then keep scrolling)

Dude…

  • admits it’s offtopic
  • provides no logs, no commands, no error messages.
  • ???
  • Profit!

At least post some logs, error messages…

(And yes, it’s not your fault, I agree, ubuntu is shit, including server variant. Way to screw up a distribution, Canonical! /rant. Also docker. Docker is also shit. use podman. No daemons, no problems. /rant/2)

Indeed.

@k - Nope, just access denied.
@ar - I agree 100%; I was’t at computer; just remembered something before going to bed. I don’t interact with the nodes too often lately, don’t know if it’s worth anymore. I was just hoping for some ideeas about what to check, like permissions or some service that strictened it’s policies after some update, etc.
I will come back to this when I find the time and will to debug it.
