What are the chance of getting the same /24 ip address if buy another internet plan same ISP?

Hi guys,

Has anyone bought 2 internet plans from the same ISPs (same or near location) before? Would they give you the same /24 ip address? I’ve been thinking of asking them but I figure they would point me to static IP anyway.

I understand each ISP is different from another but I’m trying to feel how they allocate their IP, what are their usual practice…?

depends what tecnology isp use, if ppoe then you can ask to get other ip, if it is DHCP then usualy isp has some IP range in your place.

Check your ISP’s ASN and how many IPv4 they own, or if they are just reselling from a parent.

With dynamic IPs more often than not when I restart modem I get a brand new IPv4 that wasn’t in the same /24 as previous. With static you could probably ask for an IP change.

But opening up an entire new line to host a storagenode seems questionable, hope you’re doing something else with that line.

Please try to understand. This limit is for a reason: we do not want to store pieces of the same segment in the same physical location. Because if your hardware or ISP are going down, all these pieces will become unavailable increasing the risk to make a segment is unavailable for the customer.
The lost data = the lost customer = no payout for everyone = no company anymore.
Do you want this outcome because of several additional $$?
Please don’t, the network and your future self will thank you!

Hey there, it mostly my curiosity how ISP allocate their ip address. I crunch the number and it said I’ll lose money if I do that, just a thing cross my mind.

They usually providing IPv4 address space by /24. This is why this rule is implemented in a first place. You may request to get an IP from a different /24 subnet for a premium, but there is economic would work against you.

I have 2 lines from one ISP. They change IP every 24 hours and both IPs are very often in the same /24 subnet. Also there is a chance to have someone else running a node in the subnet. So I made a script to reconnect until I have subnets without neighbors. With a fixed IP there would be nothing I could do.

It would be better to have them from different ISPs to reduce a risk to have an unrecoverable segments, if your single ISP could go down.
