What is collectora.storj.io and why is TTL 5s

I see a lot of DNS queries from the uplinks/gateway to collectora.storj.io which has a CNAME DNS-Entry to collectorb.datasci.storj.io with a TTL of 5 seconds.

My questions are:
What is this service? Why does the gateway need to contact this all the time?
Why is the TTL only 5 seconds? Is the CNAME going to change that quickly for some reason?

Collectora is the service our data science team uses to monitor the health of the network, so we can make sure that files get repaired in time and no data is lost, among other indicators to ensure that our network is operating optimally.

Ok I understand that. Although I thought the satellites themselves monitor “their own network” for repair and data loss?
But why does the TTL have to be 5 seconds? Does the cname change that quickly?
Because with 5 seconds you can’t cache that dns entry locally.
I got 8000 dns requests for those addresses in the last 24 hours.

I have brought this to the attention of our data science team. Thanks for pointing this out! They will look into it to see if they could lower the ping frequency.

Heh, no good reason for this to be so small! Just bumped it to 1 hour. Thanks for the suggestion!
