A marketing plan for storj protocol (via mouth of words)

Hi everyone,

I’ve a plan to discuss with you, I didn’t want to publish this so soon as other with more resources can move ahead of me, but without permission from you (SNOs) this plan won’t work, please hear me out.

I had a feeling, even if there is a fully completed satellite, nobody is going to care, they don’t know about storj protocol, about my service, they simply don’t trust it and nobody have any time to pay attention to it.

I need to go to the market and build karma, so I cook up a plan:

I notice: when a user want to share a file/video/image, most forum allow image, some allow video and most don’t allow file upload (especially big file).

But even if user upload image, when they upload an album, they usually don’t want the forum image feature, it usually too crude and not in original quality.

That is when I notice some people would recommend an external upload service, for example (not affiliate in anyway): gofile.io.

Note that, they do it completely altruistic, there are services that pay them to upload to their services, but user choose simplicity - they don’t care about money at all - and most of them are first time uploader.

It make sense to me, if I want to share something, the last thing I want are some TOS, register this, click that, all I want is to upload and a link, that’s it.

And as a user who receive the link, the last thing I want is some arbitrary bandwidth restriction with a paywall.

This is where my plan come in: instead of recommend other services, what if they recommend me?

How do I make them recommend me?

First, storj web UI is a dead end for this job, I need a new site for this, simple UI, extremely intuitive and a short url - the point is to gain their attention and funnel back to the landing site of my service, where I introduce the protocol and the benefit of distributed/decentralised.

(for example - Transfer.it - notice the color contrast)

I ask Claude if this is possible for storj as backend, it said yes: many ways to do it in fact - but I’d choose this method:

The service I mention above use 10 days inactivity before deleting a file, I just need to last slightly longer - make it 20 days.

How do people even know about you in the first place?

This is where my trick come in: I would scan forums (need your recommendation on this), see if there are file/video upload and not using my service, I’d download and re-upload and comment with a link said it last longer and faster than other services, gradually people will know and recommend my service and I don’t need to spam anymore.

Of course, there will be some difficulties along the way, the main adversary I can think of is the ACE gang (Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment), so need to make sure copyrighted content cannot thrive here.

But there a problem

I can’t funnel back traffic to my tutorial satellite, I’ve to have a real satellite ready - but I’ve not build my accounting system (nor anyway to receive money yet) - I think it would be too late for that, I need to build up karma first before receiving money.

So here I am, using my social credit to charm you into this plan, if you disagree but still agree to support tutorial satellite, you could change from https://static.storkspace.net/dcs-satellites to just 12kK7Y15fU1b5YADDQiBj2Dd4WsF1LARVWHpW6nXRcusV3wiRZD@tutor.storkspace.net:7777, otherwise you don’t need to do anything.

I can only promise this: the day I receive my first dollar is the same day you are.

Thanks for reading this!

We have had a project GitHub - dutchcoders/transfer.sh: Easy and fast file sharing from the command-line. · GitHub which used Storj as a backend.
