After doing a checkdisk on the C:\ folder my node is offline. Please Help!

sadly chkdsk is microsofts ninja assassin, you look away from the screen for 3 seconds during a reboot and all of a sudden chkdsk jumps in a slices your belly open and starts flailing around in your guts on the ground…

now you realize something is wrong and you look down in front of you at chkdsk… and chkdsk looks up at you with guts hanging everywhere… and says… i thought you had cancer so i went ahead and checked… and i was right…
YOU ARE WELCOME!

and as your life ebbs from your body and chkdsk runs across the screen, and the files fixed number increases by the hundreds or thousands pr second.

you might have had cancer, but now you know and there is no coming back from that… and chkdsk is already long gone, even tho the dust haven’t settled yet and you are just landing on your knees…

Which ultimately turned out to be the problem anyway, so no logs needed at all.

But I get your point: if everyone’s reaction to “post logs plz” was “no wait, I have a different idea”, troubleshooting would be a lot harder for all us friendly guys just trying to help a brother out :wink:

Honestly I just tuned out. 9 times out of 10 the log will tell you exactly where to look for an issue. If someone is going on a hunt without giving me the most useful tool to help out, I’m not going to bother. I gladly help people where I can, but I see no reason in trying to do it with my hands tied behind my back.

No worries, I didn’t go through any trouble at all. I would have though. I enjoy helping out, but I simply don’t want to do it without the information needed to find out what’s wrong. If you post logs and other things we might ask for next time I promise you I’ll have a better look and help you find the issue.

You wouldn’t ask a detective who committed the crime without giving him access to the evidence. And he probably wouldn’t give you an answer either. So I simply did the same and moved on.

Right Im looking out for the guys who are always here to help all of us are, Just don’t like to see when someone just takes advantage of it, When someone has had similar issues once before they shouldn’t post there issue every single time asking for help when its not really related to there node. @BrightSilence Has been there almost every time and is always there to help, And Im the one who stands up for these guys. My intentions aren’t to put anyone down just to make this clear.

It’s all good. The node is now running fine, so the logs aren’t that interesting anymore. But when your node is offline like the title in this topic said. This is where you will find your best clues as to what is going on.

I appreciate you looking out for the people that help @deathlessdd. There have been a few posts lately of people who are asking for help but then dismissing the help they get. I saw somewhere else someone responding to another person helping out with “You don’t get it, let’s wait for senior”. It’s stuff like that that can be really annoying, it’s a bit of a slap in the face to someone who is volunteering their time to help out. I personally don’t really care, I just stop responding. But that does mean that those people don’t get as great help on the forums here as others who treat everyone with a bit more respect.

I don’t want to make a big deal out of it though.

Well if I ever need help id want you to be there, Cause your one of the most detailed ones, People dont know what there missing when they ignore the help you do offer.

I haven’t really kept up with them all but I wanna help when I can and its not right when people just dismiss the help they do get because they don’t know who you are and expect storj to be able to help everyone. They just don’t get it, But I really appreciate that your always there for everyone that you can.

Okay, it might be because of the reputation, I had to copy some of the files from other hard disk drives removing the hdd where the storj data was stored, so that is why it is being affected.
