Average Disk Space in dashboard vs Disk Average Month in payout

Hello,

I am new as a node operator. I don’t quite understand the relation between the dashboard information and the payout screen.
For exemple, in my dashboard, I have a reported disk usage of 250Gb. However, in my payout information screen, only 25 Gb is taken into the payout.

Is this a normal differrence between the 2 values ? I dedicated 2Tb of space on my Storj node, should I expect of “real” usage for payout to be 5 times less than the actual space used ?

If you can help me give me some infos on this, this seams totaly wrong in the first view.

The payout screen.

One is current usage, the other is your monthly average for each day.
When you have a new node and its going up and up the average is going to be lower because it was lower on Jan 1, than Jan 15.

  1. You are not paid based on the amount of storage used on the last day. You would need to calculate retention for all pieces and that’s too much work for nothing.
  2. Dashboard plots can be inaccurate for a number of reasons, and I would disregard it. The only important information there is green “online” in the top. Keep it green.
  3. First month you will get very little traffic while your node is being vetted.

Hello @Nicox,
Welcome to the forum!

The short answer is “yes”. The Avg is reported by the satellites, the Used is reported from the databases of your node (and they could not match the actual usage reported by OS for different reasons, also Avg is not always actual).

The estimated payout is based on the current behavior (if the customers would continue use your node like this, the payout would be… :crystal_ball:), you need to take it with a Gran of salt (maybe even ignore). The actual usage is calculated based on the orders cryptographically confirmed by three sides (the satellites, the customers and your node), your node send them to the satellites regularly. This information has almost no influence on estimations though (because Avg not always reported fully, see above).

Everything on the dashboard is avg stat and estimations. The actual payout you will see in the Payout Information, when the payout is done. In your case it’s likely nothing get paid, because node is too new and likely didn’t clear a Minimum Payout Threshold on the selected network (either Ethereum or zkSync Era), and your payout is added as an Undistributed payout. When your node would be able to clear it, the cumulative payout would be send.

That makes sense. Thank you for your explanations. It will patiently wait a few month.
