Backing up Synology NAS

I have about 1.7TB of priceless family photos/videos that I’ve been keeping on an SSD NAS and today I’ve setup a backup for my NAS to StorJ. I must say, excellent job to the StorJ Team for making this such a stream lined process! I’m sure there are others out there looking to do the same on Synology, are there any thoughts to adding instructions to the StorJ Docs for a how to?

Thank you!

Did you meet any issues to setup a HyperBackup with generated S3 credentials and endpoint?
You will select an S3 as a provider and choose to use a custom server URL, here you would provide an endpoint for Storj as gateway.storjshare.io, the Access Key and the Secret Key, then the bucket name. It also better to specify a part size as 64MiB on the next step. That’s all.

Can you make a guide here, for anyone interested?

I chose the custom URL, downloaded the keys and it was a breeze.

Can i ask you which Synology you use?
Im just wondering if my old ds1511+ and ds115j would be usable.

Thanks

If you have a HyperBackup app (or CloudSync) - likely yes. But you can also use other backup solutions such as Duplicacy or restic.

Just wanted to let you guys know that i also had a absolute nice and easy backup experience with Synology to Storj.

I was looking for a good photo managing software to sort my photobackup-usb-disk-mess and found Synology Photos is just the right software for my needs.

Unfortunately for Synology Photos DSM 7 is needed so i traded my old ds1511+ to a ds124 and set up two backup tasks. First is a daily full backup via rsync to my Truenasserver (cause ds124 is just a one bay) and second a daily backup from my irretrievable photos / documents / music to Storj.

In terms of instructions i found a easy and useful step by step turtorial on YouTube. Here
