Pretty sure they never even really did anything with blockchain.
I wasn’t around when Storj started up either, but I do know they have only ever run public networks that in their core don’t rely on blockchain, which has only ever been used as a solution to pay node operators worldwide, which would otherwise require a massive amount of complex payment system integration, differing for every country in the world. The storage network itself is decentralized and uses cryptography, which is often confused with blockchain and cryptocurrencies, but not the same thing.
Storj Labs looked into using smart contracts when we first converted over to the Ethereum block chain. There was some talk of this kind of integration with third party satellites. It may always resurface someday as all the technologies mature.
3.(d).vi. Company may change or eliminate any Promotional Credit at any time, without notice, including, but not limited to any coupon, or Promotional Credit designated as a free trial or free tier.
Thus, we notified only PRO account users and posted this thread on the forum for everyone else, even if we are not forced to do so.
2. You may use zkSync Era, it has much less fees. If you prefer to use other blockchains, you may use services like https://changenow.io/ (but maybe the resulted fee would be higher than use Ethereum/zkSync Era directly). You also may use a credit card and some debit cards to pay for the service. Just need to have enough funds on it.
3. See above, you may use instant exchanges like above
4. This is not going to work. The consumer service requires a separate company. At the moment it’s not our goal. You, as a consumer, may use our service too, but you likely will miss a lot of consumers features, unless you would use a third party tools with a native Storj integration or at least S3-compatible:
A direct message from the Managing Director of The Union of The Storage Node Operators. Wow. :- )
Im affraid “small letter” guys. Unfortunately. :- )
For me storj roots are very much related to blockchain. The first time I heard about storj was when they appeared on rclone list. I started a node a few months (mabe even years) later when I spotted them as one of the apps available at some beta release of TrueNas Scale. I joined the forum when they made this broad move of cutting storage node operators fees by tens of percent points. At that time their website was screaming Web 3.0. I am even recalling some official press releases mentioning steaking. I took an effort to learn a bit more about them, but not so much info is available. The interesting fact I am recalling I spotted somewhere was related to Google Ventures being an early investor. To be confirmed as I dont have a link to this website currently. I guess that that was before storj offering tokens on the blockchain. Anyway, usually I dont see a problem with a company being registered at any of the tax heavens, thats a normal practice in a financial sector. Nevertheless, I am recalling, once I tried to contact storj management and the supervisory board on this discussion list mentioning their address provided at their website. My account was almost immediately suspended, and my posts deleted by the local sheriffs. My approach to storj is very balanced, I dont want to associate with them as for now. Currently, among other things related to technology, I see their practices related to their potential operations related to trading of carbon footprint certificates as being potentially questionable. Basically, that was the topic of my questions to the management and supervisory boards I just mentioned to you. I was worried about that, however, still, in case there indeed are some question marks, taking appropriate actions as soon as possible would potentially still make an audit by a respectable firm and any correction or any settlements still possible. :- )
Since the free tier is discontinued why does storj hold files hostage when you wanna delete your data? I waited to see if new payment methods would be added and they have not, and Id rather just delete all my data since storj will only accept credit cards. And high fees for storj. Which I will not do. Didnt see storj accept zsync era now maybe i will wait.
Hello, I’m trying to add my card, but I’ve blocked it on the app to prevent unauthorized transactions. However, it is getting declined, almost as if Storj is attempting to charge me for 0 usage and amount is not specified which it is trying to cut, will it be refunded or what?
Often companies will reserve an amount on a card. For instance, if you go to a gas station around here in the US, they will reserve an amount like $100 on the card. This isn’t a charge, rather it is reserving up to that amount for a future charge. Often those reservations fall off after the charge is made, or after a set amount of time, usually a day or two. It allows shop owners to know that someone doesn’t drive up to the pump, slide their card, and then fill their tank with $100 in gas and then the card only has 10 cents available, so it can’t be charged. The reservation prevents that kind of behavior.
If you yourself block a card from getting charged, it is of course expected that it will be declined by our payment provider. If your card is not blocked by yourself, and is still getting declined, this most likely was an action by your own bank for various reasons, such as insufficient balance if it is a debit card. Our payment processor may decline processing payment if a card is expired , is blocked or card number invalid. It may also be one of the prepaid cards the payment processor does not accept. Storj Labs does not decide unilaterally to decline specific cards and does not make random charges to cards if there is zero usage.
I suggest you file a support ticket so we can look into what is the specific reason the card was declined in your case, if you are not preventing it from being charged by blocking it yourself.
Besides cards we also accept STORJ token deposits, either via Layer 1 on the ethereum blockchain, or zkSync Era. Our devs are currently testing implementing other payment methods such as Google Pay and iDeal for example.
I want my data back, I am lock out of my data I have been collecting for two years.
It’s not that much, less then 10 GB. I can’t use credit card or KYC myself in an exchange to buy your token. This feels like a ransom, I can’t get my data out without giving you money.
Is there anyone from storj that can help download less then 10 GB?
This will cost you nothing, the data will be destroyed anyway, please help me out and I will be would grateful for the service you offered the last two years.
Why can’t you KYC yourself on an exchange?A lot of exchanges offer debit card, to avoid buying storj tokens that you are not going to use anyway.
It’s quite unbelievable that you can’t find a payment method on visa or Mastercard network. Seems like a very artificial and impractical restriction.
If the data is so important why not restore it from backup at this point? Surely free tier of the cloud service is not the only place where you kept it.
Thanks for the recommendation @bre. It seems that this website fully supports zkSync Era! Hurra!! :- )
But hey, to be a bit more serious, could you please consider borrowing me something like 10 bucks in ETH? I tried your recommendation for zkSync Era and tx portal for the last storage node payment and as far as I understand I found myself locked on L1. I know, I know, that I should have some ETH there but at the same time from the very beginning I also followed your advice promoted on the forum, not your keys not your money, thus I used my own instead of exchange address. I briefly described the situation and my experience here. I am really serious with my question. I will be able to prove to you that I have enough financial resources to pay you back those 10 bucks immediately after unlocking my storj funds. I do also consider myself as a person that stands behind my own words. I estimate that I need about 8 bucks to unlock the resources, and about 0.5 to pay fee to change them into ETH and also about 0.5 to cover the fee of the return transfer to you. I added 1 buck to be on a safe side and to cover your transaction costs. I would really like to unlock those financial resources, the situation is absolutely unexpected and for some reasons I am not able to do any on-ramp from my fiat account. I would really appreciate your help on this matter. :- )
P.S. BTW, are you maybe Mr. Bryan Mangelson - The Senior Vice President Finance and Operations, the person who was presenting during the last Storj Town Hall dated March 27, 2024? I am sorry for asking, however, there is no real name associated with your nick, at the same time, the nick might suggest some similarity with the presenter’s first name, thus the question. :- )
On the second though, I would like to ask, again, folks, what are you doing, if one takes a look, there is a problem almost on every side, technology, node payments, users satisfaction, carbon footprint; highest time for v. 4? :- ) P.S. I really promise I will not be disturbing you anymore.
my opinion on Storj, what an company! There are dozens of red flags!
As they say “we notified only PRO account users and posted this thread on the forum for everyone else, even if we are not forced to do so” Can’t they just send an email to every user? I’m sure it costs little to nothing and maybe for SMS (mobile text), it is understandable (which they don’t use), but how hard can it be? Maybe they just didn’t want to inform users otherwise they wouldn’t get anything (like a ransom).
They keep pointing out that STORJ is not for consumers (They should warn users that it’s not meant for regular consumers while signing up) and their main focus is developers and perhaps companies. Because most of their nodes are in Russia, I am sure most governments or big companies won’t come near STORJ.
They claim STORJ is a crypto-based company, but they only use their token for payment and nothing else, which is better compared to NFTs but At least they could add some other cryptocurrencies like BTC, ETH, or stablecoins like USDC or USDT.
After looking at Storj forums and network statistics for the last month, I can say it feels more like a startup or a side project of college friends. It seems most jobs they offer are remote (even STORJ employees are decentralized).
I want to say it was Storj who offered a free tier, not the users. only startups and greedy companies with will do it for short-term gain and how hard it is to automated email changing and account deletion process—a developer-focused company can’t do it without contacting support?"
Now some rabbit will get angry at me for criticizing STORJ as if he’s the boss, and his most common solution is ‘JUST PAY!’
The Trolling lately is getting a bit out of hand, and I would request that if you have issues or complaints that everyone stick to facts and not spin things to be dramatic.
Also, Bre is Bre. Not Bryan. Nobody here is masking themselves as multiple people. Some of us have aliases because we have been with the company a long time. Bre and Alexey, like most of the rest of the Storjlings use their real names in the forum.
