I can create a fake MyEtherWallet that will ask you for your private key. If you enter it all your funds are mine…

MyCrypto is basically the same wallet but you install it localy on your PC. Instead of opening my phising page you would click on the icon on your desktop. That makes it less likely that you enter your private key on a phising site.

I’ve spent some hours clicking around mycrypto.com, and…they may have good software, but their documentation is atrocious! As far as I can tell, they have (or have had) three different approaches:

  • A web-based wallet
  • A desktop app-based wallet intended to be used online
  • A desktop app-based wallet intended to be airgapped

Above all (and there are many confusing things), they are not very clear about which product they are talking about at any given time, and they have apparently depracated the airgapped version, even though other parts of the site describe it as the most secure approach.

So…I guess it’s the best option, but maybe not the best option for a dummy like me.
