I’m considering using a 4U server to handle high I/O workloads in a decentralized storage environment like Storj. I’m curious if this type of server is ideal for managing the data flows and resource demands that come with distributed storage networks. Has anyone had experience with this setup, and if so, what kind of performance or optimizations did you observe? I’m particularly interested in hearing about the pros and cons when it comes to storage, cooling, and network connectivity. Any insights or advice would be appreciated!
You do not need anything special. The recommended way is to run one node per disk. We do not recommend to use RAID, unless it’s already configured and used by something beside Storj.
Please also consider the power consumption of such a server.
4U server is dimension, not describe of the server. there cold be Raspberry pi inside this case, or old CPU with power of RPI and hunger of 1kW. You should make calculations, what is power consumptions, How much space you offer for this, how much internet you have, will it fill up this amount. there is lot of things you need to think.
