Minimum Threshold for Storage Node Operator Payouts

For all those complaining about the amount of time it will take to get even a small payout, I get it, but thats how the system is designed. First theres a lengthy vetting process before you get any decent amount of data (and therefore egress traffic) and then when you do start to earn, most of it is held back for quite some time. These things were carefully considered by Storj to protect the network and reduce node churn (by ensuring Nodes are invested in the long term).

I’m not going to share my ETH address, but I’ve just checked on Etherscan and I’ve been paid out 14308 Storj tokens since my first payout for the v3 network on July 2019 (not including Dec payout which has yet to be paid). I’d also like to point out that I sold most of those when the price of Storj was a lot higher than todays price. Note that a fair amount of those was due to surge payouts, but I’m hoping that production traffic will more than make up for that going forward.

I’ve always ignored the Storj advice not to buy dedicated hardware, and fortunately its paid off, which was a risk I could afford to take. I use large datacenter drives (non SMR) in cheap Odroid HC2s (no redundancy) and I’ve just purchased two more nodes using the HC4s which i will be setting up as soon as the Linux installer is released.

I’m passionate about the Storj project and I can see real improvements all the time from the great team they have. I honestly believe we will see great things in the future.

Hi Jocelyn,
Well, I have 28$ on one of my nodes and 32$ on another, my major ones, and haven´t been paid yet!
This amount will transition to the next month?

I don’t think so, it will take a long time to pay back $2000!

Gentlemen , got one question about payouts: payout is visible on dashboard but yet no transaction - is this a ground for worries?
Just if you go to transactions - etherscan says : Oops! An invalid Txn hash has been entered

This was mentioned in the first post…

If the payments weren’t made then the transaction link on the dashboard points to https://etherscan.io/tx/eceipt%20for%20this%20period which isn’t a valid transaction as you say.

StorjLabs you really have to work on your bad communication and “back and forth”.
Even if the reasons are understandable its a no go to held back the payouts and inform only in a forum-posting … And with 0 days/cycles time to get the SNOs informed and deal with it before the heldback happens.

Not very confidence inspiring, sorry …

Yeah, imagine someone would come up to tell you you would get paid for all work you’ve ever done in your next life!?

In what world is comparing it to your main source of income even a slightly reasonable comparison? If Storj were your main income you would obviously earn enough to receive payout.

This is closer to a friend saying he will pay you back for that coffee next week.

Soooo… You want payouts to end up in limbo? How is that any better? You’d be risking never getting the payout that way.

We all knew it was coming it was a matter of when it was coming, People who make much less then 5 dollars is costing storj much more in fees then its worth to send to someone. Which could be used later to make the payout.

I’m new to Storj, usually reading topics. But now I’d like to put my two cents in…
As far as i see the main problem is that Storj token is built on Ethereum blockchain … This makes small payouts detrimental. But while Storj is used for payouts only, why just not to move to another blockchain?

I think one reason is that Storj has quite a bit of tokens that would then be worthless…

Its not as simple as that…

probably because that has already happen once when we was using counterparty on bitcoin years ago with the sjcx token.

to be fair they did exchange them so i’m not sure about losing worth but i imagine it is hassle. (when storj swapped last time)

True, but what if I’d like to be a Tardigrade customer… Than I also need to pay e.g. 10/20/50% of my payment for stored data as a gas … ? That would definitely frighten me even to try

It goes without saying this is all crypto so if your in the whole crypto world currently fees are high across the board since bitcoin prices are skyrocketing Eth is skyrocking…It just can’t be advoided. Coins are being Dumped others are selling tons of payments going back an forth. And im reeping the benefits by mining Eth.

good morning all! There is a lot to parse here, and I just got out of some meetings. Im going to devote some time to reading here before starting internal conversations around it. I think the topic is too important for a “skim”. But I wanted to let you know that Im engaging with it.

we dont bash here @jammerdan <3
You deserve to have your thoughts taken seriously, and different opinions/perspectives are how concepts are honed to the best quality.
Ok - there is a lot to dig into. Im going to grab a mug of decaf and put on my thinking cap

Are all the payouts supposed to be done for december? I have not received my payout but I should have received it according to the 25% rule I think ($24,77)
