My contribution to the suggestion box:
StorjGrid
StorjHive
Storj Horizon
Storj Flux
Storj Skyway
Storj Arc
Storj Super Storage (S3)
Storj Object Storage Services (SOS2)
Later a backronym was created for it in popular usage, and SOS became associated with mnemonic phrases such as “Save Our Souls” and “Save Our Ship”. Moreover, due to its high-profile use in emergencies, the phrase “SOS” has entered general usage to informally indicate a crisis or the need for action.
I think this would be a cool name for the Valdi offering → Distributed GPU Computing.
Edit:
Preferably as Storj Grid or maybe Storj Grid Compute ?
Bezos should just buy Storj and rebrand the storage side to “S3 Deluge”… as a new lower-priced community-based offering. There are plenty of other tiers already, one more won’t hurt.
Storj Public Network.
i mean, and it cannot just be a “Storj hosting” ?
(edit: since im reading that this partnership with PetaGene makes possible(or will make) not only object storage but also normal storage possible via decentralized node network)
commonly Storj’s hosting
and professionally SDH (Storj’s Decentralized Hosting) ?
or Storj’s DH
I think something easy like Storj Global would be easy and in the same time tell a lot.
So its STOR-EVER-Y-WHERE?
I love it! It has exactly the right vibe that Tardigrade was supposed to invoke, without that cochroachy ugliness. Plus, it’s got a great play with Storj Select, both invoking positive tones.
Boring.
Maybe just use names like what it is:
Storj Select:
Storj Datacenter (Network)
Storj DC (Network)
Storj Global Datacenters
“Public” Network:
Storj Global (Network)
Storj Node (Network)
Storj Global Nodes
or of course abbreviations like SGD, SGN etc.
If one is named “Global” and the other “Select” it sounds like the Select offering is only a subset of the other. This could create the impression that “Select” is not global which is not correct as I understand it as the data centers are globally distributed as well.
this is correct that Select offer only a subset of global.
Currently Storj Select is not global automatically. It’s distributed, but not globally, e.g. only DCs in US, only DCs in EU, only DCs in AU. Usually data is geofenced to these regions.
However, if the customer would like to have them also distributed to other continents, I think it’s possible too.
So, Select for me still seemed as a subset of a global network, because it would be strictly limited to meet customers’ conditions.
I see. Initially there was only US datacenters available so it seemed natural that it was not globally distributed. But I thought with additional datacenters in regions throughout the world, the global availability concept will be adopted too. I think it should because this is one of the strength of the distributed nature that data gets served from a location near where it is requested. Geofencing should be a subset of this and of course should be possible if a customer wants its data to be limited to a specific region.
At least this would be my idea of such a product.
Currently there is no demand for that. Most of the demand - SOC2 type II.
This one has already been used in the OG Storj Coin X (SJCX).
Storjay is my proposal Sadly it’s already taken
