If you donā€™t have a public IP, you canā€™t access the Internet.

Yes, this is your real IP address given by your ISP.

This looks like a local IP. I think it is the address of your routeur in your local network.

So itā€™s normal that PIA takes the IP ā€œ45.5.68.16ā€.

Just some thoughts and propositions to make things easier:

  • So far, I think you donā€™t need PIA. Just check in your router configuration that you can use PortForwarding.
  • consider your IP as static and configure your SNO as is. After your node is online, use Uptime Robot to check your running node is still up. If your IP changes, you will receive a notification. In this case, you should use noip to set up a Dynamic DNS.

Iā€™m pretty sure Richard is behind a CGNAT, which is why the VPN is needed. Everything looks okay from the VPN configuration.

@Richard1 Did you open the port 52780 on the windows firewall? Do you have any other firewall software running?

Regarding the windows firewall, I have an INPUT rule for TCP port 52780. I have not created an outbound rule for that port.

I found a utility called port listener that listens on the port in question and will respond to pings. I suggest giving this a try. It will tell you if the problem is port related or storagenode related. If the storagenode isnā€™t working properly, it may not respond to ping requests. You should shut down the node (stop the service), then run the utility on port 52780. Then ping from yougetsignal to the VPN IP address and port. If it shows as open, we know itā€™s a node problem. If it shows as closed we know there is something else getting in the way.

Could you please run a PIA and restart the storagenode service to take into effect your changes in the configuration. I hope you clicked the ā€œSaveā€ button in the Notepad++ before closing it. The Notepad++ do not save the file by default, so you should explicitly click the ā€œSaveā€ button before closing the text editor.
To restart storagenode from the elevated PowerShell you can do:

I think problem is that External port is 52780 but on Node side it is 28967, even if you have port forward on router from 52780 to 28967 you need to open 28967 port to inbount on windows firewal

Yes, Vadim is right because what I said was correct. There was an error in Richardā€™s config.yaml file. We fixed it according the docs. Anyway, this isnā€™t helping Richard get his node running, so we had best move on. We have verified that the VPN port forwarding is working, so that pretty much leaves the node itself. I have less experience with the windows GUI, so I will let you troubleshoot for a while.

With PIA the forwarding is doing inside the PIA, no router is involved. But firewall could block the port.
The documentation is mention to change the server.address to use the PIAā€™s port, in this case it should be server.address: :52780 or server.address: 0.0.0.0:52780
