I’m running a Storj node from the Windows GUI [Windows 11] and I’m seeing that my QUIC is supposedly misconfigured. I’ve opened up both tcp and udp port 28967 on my firewall, and forwarded both tcp and udp port 28967 on my router. I’m not sure what else I’m supposed to do… the details from the log file are as follows:

Does the dashboard show the node online? The errors shown appear to suggest a bigger problem than just QUIC being misconfigured.

it does, yes

unfortunately not. the thread boils down to “open your 28967 port”, which I have already done. I forwarded port 28967 [tcp and udp] to my windows computer connected via ethernet, and opened inbound ports for 28967 [tcp and udp], as well as outbound ports for 28967 [tcp and udp]. i just restarted my node service again through Services [powershell was giving me an Restart-Service : Service 'Storj V3 Storage Node (storagenode)' cannot be stopped due to the following error: Cannot open storagenode service on computer '.'. error] so i’m waiting to see what comes of that. so far the dashboard is saying “offline” and “refreshing”

now it’s “offline” and “misconfigured”…

back “online” again, still “misconfigured”

is there a way to manually run whatever command storj uses to check for quic configuration?

using Pingdom i’m getting tcp errors, even though both ports are forwarded and opened…

Is the port open (as confirmed by other tools, like uptimerobot) but pingdom reports errors or the port appears closed to both tools? If so — maybe MTU shenanigans?

Your original log indicates TCP is not working so QUIC is the least of the worries, as noted in the third comment above.

idk why the satellite pings seem to go from success to failure and back again, but my node definitely says it’s Online. the way you and the other person are reacting tho, it seems like the log entries regarding satellite pings aren’t relevant to QUIC status

Great, so the port is open, but TCP times out.

Do you have public address or are you forwarding to your node via VPN? Do you have any smart firewall, that may be analyzing and blocks packets, etc?

I suggest do this: grab your phone, turn off WiFi and connect via cellular, then go to http://:28967.

Next step would be looking at MTUs across your network devices. I have very little experience with networking on Windows, but someone may chime in how to verify MTU size.

If you use VPN to host your node however I’m 87% sure the issues are due to MTU sizes (too large or too small, or mismatched) on the vpn bridge.
But let’s take it one thing at a time.

apparently i’m just dumb.

completely forgot/overlooked my computer had a “Killer Doubleshot Pro” feature that I enabled, which redirects high priority network traffic through whichever connection is faster, of wireless and wired, and low priority through whichever is slower.

i disabled it, and instead of taking over a minute to get “Online”, the dashboard instantly showed I was “Online” and my quic was “OK”.

as for why it even mattered, I can only guess it was doing something weird to storj traffic and redirecting it incorrectly [whatever that actually means]

Holly molly! Getting Wi-Fi to work reliably is difficult as it is; adding marketing gimmicks on top to “improve performance” of inherently shared and slow media sounds like ridiculously short signed idea…

Yeah, sounds like it was interfering with proper routing of packets, e.g. sending responses to the wrong interface… Please, uninstall that crap, any other optimizers, improvers, and whatchamacallits… Did not expect that from Intel. I guess they are running out of ideas.

To be fair, Doubleshot Pro wasn’t enabled by default- i had to actively seek out instructions on how to do that bc it wasn’t exactly clear. i thought it would improve my network speeds or smth but it hasn’t had any noticeable effect on my network quality anyways
