Storagenode Payout Update: 2026 September

Just keep watching for payout transactions. Looks like nothing for about 40 hours now.

I think they are trying to topup their wallet. Haha.

I need advice! Please help! My “Total Earned” has been staying unchanged for several months while “Total Help Amount” has been increasing. I am getting the impression that storj is rip off or scam. While my node would go offline for short while genereally it always online and running smoothly, in the 96-99% range availability. I run from May 2026 until now. Something if not right o_O

Why? You never explained why.
What entity prevents storj from using USD from customers and sending it to node operators who earns also in USD?

Aren’t storj not allowed to interfere with token? Including forcing others to use it against their will just to keep it somewhat alive?

Using volatile token for payment is a bug. It needs to be fixed. Either by fixing volatility or using different assets. Until storj can do the former they must do the latter.

Storj in chapter 11 and continue to hemorrhage money to speculative market makers on every transaction with this bullshit token. This is dumb. It wastes money. Bring it to your attorneys and have them get an exception to pay your vendors like a normal company.

Screenshot would help. Also a lot of data in the dashboard is wrong because node does not babe all the data. Satellite knows correct numbers.

If you think its a scam you are free to exit.

What kind of mentality it is — “I don’t understand it must be a scam”

It’s time you stop constantly whining about the Storj coin.
It’s not your company, and Alexey has said multiple times that it isn’t going to change.
Accept it and move on; it’s your opinionn ans said it 100 times by now, and everyone is well aware of that—to the point of annoyance

I disagree. I think, I’ll continue.

I don’t believe that statement. He said what he had to say. He works for Storj.

Not going to.

This sounds like a you problem. In discourse settings you can mute me (Preferences → Users → Ignored/Muted)

Your annoyance does not confer veto power over what I choose to discuss.

You always analyse every word and think you are always right with everything.

But i will indeed use your advice and put the mute on.

Ordinary mentality: I invest time and money, and Storj promises that if you keep the node running properly, you’ll get paid. Then I see that Storj does earn money, but I am not getting anything out of it at all. That is unfair; therefore, it does look like a scam or abuse to me. It not like I started complaining in the first or even second week or month. It’s already September, and I started in May.

It looks like up to July you may have not earned enough to reach the minimum-payout (especially because of holdback). Then the August prepayment was accidentally low and based on July numbers… so still too low. But now between your real-August numbers, and the Sept estimated prepayment based on it… you should have enough banked for a payout.

Except the payouts started… and stopped around 20%-done two days ago. You can’t win

I think you will get some STORJ this time… if they can get past the technical problems.

First, if you are going to demand professional standards from Storj, take an actual screenshot. Photographing a dirty monitor with a phone is sloppy and lazy.

Storj never asked you to “invest time and money”. The recommendation has always been to use existing hardware and spare capacity. You chose to spend money anyway, against that advice. That is your problem. And if by “investing time” you mean starting a Docker container and opening a port, I don’t know what to tell you.

You started in May, and until the end of June the node was still being vetted. So you have had roughly two months of normal operation on a brand-new node, and it has earned the whole twenty cents or so we are arguing about here. This is not evidence of some long-running scheme where Storj took your investment and refused to pay you.

And again, the node dashboard is not authoritative accounting. The node knows what happened locally. It does not know which competing transfers ultimately won or lost until the satellite does the accounting and reports the result.

I am not sure if we are on the same page or what? For the last 2 months, I have been earning over a dollar a month, considering that Storj withholding a % due to the node is new, yet Total Earned shouldn’t be 7 cents at this time. The point I am trying to make is that I am looking at the trend of where it’s all going and asking myself why I should commit hardware resources to a business that does not appreciate it? And when you say Storj doesn’t beg me to run the node, here is where I have personal question for you. Do you work for storj? If yes, then I certainly wouldn’t want to do business with such partners. If not, then why would you speak for them? In any case, if Storj is absolutely careless about whether someone helps them earn money or not, than certainhly it not where you want to waste your time and hardware resources.
Like I said, if you work for storj I find your replies unprofessional, trying to shift your focus wether my screen is dirty or clean. It’s about whether the information you see is relevant or not to understand. If you volanteering and just willing to help, well than help. If you’re in a bad mood, come another time.

No, I don’t work for Storj. You posted on a public forum asking for help. I replied to you despite having to decipher numbers from photographs of a smudged monitor instead of actual screenshots. Calling that “unprofessional” is a bit rich.

You are still treating numbers shown by the node as authoritative after being told why they are not. The node does not know the final result of all transfer races. The satellite does the accounting.

You also seem to be approaching this backwards. Storj was designed around using existing hardware and spare, already online, capacity. If you are deliberately allocating hardware resources to it and then asking whether Storj “appreciates” that commitment enough, you created that problem yourself. Give it leftovers. That was the idea from the beginning.

And if, after roughly two months of normal operation following vetting, you have decided even that is not worth it — then stop. Nobody needs to beg you to continue, and nobody owes you appreciation for resources you voluntarily chose to provide.

Hello @ykroshkin,
Welcome to the forum!

You may refresh the total earned and total held by restarting the node, it reads these values only on start. @arrogantrabbit is correct on many aspects:

  • we suggest to use only what you have now which will be online with Storj or without, only in that case any earnings will be a pure profit, because you already paying your invoices for that online hardware, so any return is a nice discount to your bills;
  • the statistic on the dashboard is estimated based on Avg Disk Used this month, but this metric is provided by satellites not regularly and sometimes not full, because it might take more than a day to calculate it and this process can fail. However, this metric is not used to calculate a payout, it’s used only to estimate usage accounted on the satellite and estimate a future payout on your dashboard.
  • the correct numbers are calculated from orders, which node sends to the satellites after successful upload or download, these orders are used to calculate a real payout in the end of each month. Before payout is completed you can see only estimations made by the node, and usually they should be close to what is going to be paid, but if it has missing data, the estimation will be wrong. When the payout is completed, satellites sends receipts to nodes and you can see them in the Payout History with real numbers and TX link, if your node was able to clear a minimum payout threshold. If the node was unable to clear it - the unpaid amount will be increased instead.
  • Starting September 1, 2026 the payout rates are reduced (see Rightsizing Storj Network Payout Rates), but I believe that the node is still use old rates to calculate estimations. I hope it will be fixed in a new release.

The negative unpaid amount is a result of prepayments, see

Hello, @Alexey
I’ve only just saw that you changed the data storage rates. It is a real shame that you didn’t email all the SNOs about the new pricing. I find it highly unprofessional to position the system to operators as a “set it and forget it” solution while simultaneously forcing them to constantly monitor the forum for critical news. On the forum where most posts are just chatter from various “rabbits” talking about how happy they are to provide their hardware to businesses for free. I understand the strategy here: given the new rules on prepayments and the like, you wanted many operators to notice the rate change only closer to December so the network wouldn’t face a mass exodus. Even so, I still consider this extremely unprofessional.

Thank you for your feedback, it’s shared with the team.
However, we don’t use an email address of your node to send announcements, it will be considered as a spam in most cases. So we use this email address only for automatic notifications like your node goes offline or disqualified and trying to do not use it for direct notifications.
Perhaps, we need to extend this rule.

But there’s no need to cook up conspiracy theories; the remaining team simply can’t cover every scenario. We know for a fact that we need to cut costs, and payouts to operators are the last item on the list. We put it off as long as we could. We can’t anymore. That’s the whole story.

You are right—the costs of launching and maintaining the node are not factored in. This is because we always propose using hardware that is already online. We do not expect the node to pay for itself; in fact, we are certain that is impossible. Otherwise, we would launch the nodes ourselves without involving operators.

If you did it anyway, ignoring our suggestions, sorry, but it’s up on you, please, don’t blame us. It’s your decision.

And what do you (=company) plan on doing when a drive fails halfway across the world? Fly in on Storj’s (=company) private jet to replace it with your (=company) infinite 20TB Ultrastar inventory?

Of course the node should cover for itself, including the cost of the disk, the time spent setting it up and maintaining it, and any future hardware replacements. Don’t confuse this with “the node needs to make 10K in the first year”. As long as the drive’s cost is covered within warranty (so that it can be replaced if it fails 2 days out of warranty), the network is sustainable. If the costs aren’t covered, the network will get smaller and smaller, and eventually there won’t be anyone left to store data.

You (=company) are renting storage space on someone else’s computer. Please (and I ask this in the nicest way possible) stop pretending as if there is an infinite supply of already-on servers, including hardware replacements and technicians to replace failed hardware and fix networking issues, and also free power and networking.

We will not do anything. There are many nodes to replace, the repair workers will do the job.

That’s a whole problem. We don’t expect this. It’s also not included to the price.
If you can - that’s fine. But we will not guarantee that. If you decided, that you can do it - fine. But please don’t expect that we will account or cover this.
