Oh boy even worse this morning.
Down from 9tb to 2.2tb on a single node.
And others are dropping too.
Do you like holding on to garbage ?
I like not being given garbage in the first place.
You were never given garbage. Data turned into garbage some time after it arrived to you. Sooner than your node realized. Now it realized. Now itās property trashed and soon will be deleted. You are going to be paid correctly, according to the correct data lifecycle.
Oh by the way, if your node was really old, then a few months ago storj discontinued the free trial storage for customersā¦ and there was a lot of free data out there. In general that free data probably should have been deleted from our nodes a while ago but some of that might have been unaccounted garbage.
Mass data being deleted.
I just started my node at the end of July. BY the 3rd week of august it already contained over 10 TB. Now for the last 2 weeks it has been staedily decreasingā¦ I am presently at 6,4TB and falling. It makes me think the data is not ārealāā¦ the speed for the collection of the data and now the way it is decreasing leads me to lack confidence in the system. Is my experience unique or are others seeing the same thing?
You started your node when a lot of synthetic test data was being added to the networkā¦ as part of getting ready for new/large customers. That explains the fast growth (as normally it would take you a year+ to receive 10TB).
Recently some improvements have been made to the deletion of old data (some of it was missed before: and should have been deleted weeks earlier) ā¦ and test data has been paused to allow some of those new customers to begin their own performance testing.
So youāre seeing the same thing as the rest of us: lots space being freed up recently. Nothing to worry about!
Thanks Roxor for clarifying!
I have 40months old nodes. Pls stop spreading this kind of projections.
If you dont believe me check big old th3van nodes Index of /storj-earnings
I think the problem is that any node behave individually. For example, my nodes were always full (the test filled them over the cap), now they slowly deletes the unpaid data (still in the process, the discrepancy is 300GB for the 9.28TB of nodes, I think itās good, but still TBs of trash to go). Now they still filling any free space, but at least they now have a room for other data.
With these big customers with their fast and big amount of TTL data I think it would look the same as it was for the last few months, but only the future can show.
Will āother dataā ever come or just another wave of test data which will get purged again in some days?
How do I know? The customers behavior is unpredictable.
I do not know would be tests performed or restarted. Seems not needed, at least for now, but we will see.
Has anyone recovered from this? My nodes data keep shinking day by day Now only half from the peak.
If they turned off the test data uploads around Aug 22 (from what I can tell)ā¦ then the final 30-day-TTL data should be deleted any time now. So even though we wonāt get the data from the new 10PB customerā¦ thereās still always some natural growthā¦ so Iād expect nodes to start getting larger, slowly, in the next day or so.
Iām still getting large number of MB/s, but when check again with the earnings.py
