I think I messed up.. Node dashboard now not working

Hi all,

Im new only about 3 weeks in.

All was up and running just fine. I came across all the zkSync stuff on here and decided to do it.

I stopped the service with
Stop-Service storagenode

edited the config file to include that additional line. It would not let me save the file so I saved a new copy on the desktop.

Then I deleted the config file out of the storj folder and pasted the edited file back in.

I started the service again as confirmed by going into Windows services (it is running)

However now my Storj Dashboard will not load. At first, it did but all the stats were reset! Now it just says this site can’t be reached.

Help.

I’m on windows.

Thanks,
Sean

This what you getting? I have the same thing so I am starting to suspect STORJ is having issues.

Yes, it showed as “offline” on the first load with all stats reset. Now I get nothing.

All I did was add
operator.wallet-features: [“zksync”]

to the config file and restart the node!

Panicking I’m going to be penalized now haha. Too much of a coincedance I think that it would Storjs end. Im going to try a reboot of the PC just incase.

EDIT – Panic Over, a restart did indeed solve my issue. Its always the most obvious thing haha.

Perhaps I spoke too soon. Just loaded the dashboard again and its back to not loading

“This site can’t be reached”

Hmm very strange…

Any thoughts?

EDIT – It appears that the service is restarting. I went back into “services” inside windows and low and behold it was not running.
I start it again and a few seconds later it appears to have stopped!

I did get a couple of errors inside windows about disk errors, you know the ones that USB sticks can trigger where it asks you to scan. I just closed the message, but now im thinking maybe something has corrupted?
Storj is installed on the C: drive and data is on a different drive.

Im only 3 weeks in and a little annoyed I will no likely be banned I assume?

What does the log file say?

So it does appear to be corrupted?

Hard drive is working fine with all my files on it.

It definitely looks like some kind of corruption. I would recommend running chkdsk on the drive, but even that might not be enough to save the node.

Well, I have gone and removed any stuff I want to keep off the drive for the minute.

You would think that if Storj sees an error/corruption rather than the node just being offline then the SNO would not be penalised for it.

I may just do a full format and start again. The HDD is about 6 years old, but did Storj break it? It looks that way.

I just download a 50gb RAR file to the drive all ok. Went to extract and got errors. That’s twice with a different rar archive so I think the drive is drying to be honest.

3 weeks of Storj seems to have killed it haha. Unless it’s just a major coinsedence?

It sounds like a co-incidence. Although StorJ does use a lot of relatively small files, this kind of usage can highlight existing issues with a drive due to the number of reads.

It could be worth running the drive through a full disk read and write test, then examine the SMART data to check for any un-correctable read/write errors.

Thanks, any suggested windows software to use? I have never had a hard drive fail before to be honest or had any issues.

You can ‘zero fill’ the drive in command line - How to Write Zeros to a Hard Drive Effortlessly?

Then use CrystalDiskInfo – Crystal Dew World Standard to check the SMART data.

Thanks. I went ahead and wiped the drive. I used the windows one as well and no errors found.

Reinstalled Storj and I am now back online. All of the satellites are reporting 0%. Will they recover in time? Everything was at 100% before :unamused:

As I have wiped the drive and started again I allocated the full drive 2.5TB up from about 1TB.

Hopefully, I am allowed a second chance!

EDIT - I spoke to soon. The satellites are picking back up some have dropped but some are 100% again

Fingers crossed it all works out. Until I have to change the free host name in NoIP as they only last 30 days haha.

Thanks mate,
Sean

I am assuming you used the same identity to start again. Since you wiped data you are at risk of being disqualified once a satellite comes looking for one of the missing pieces. As this node was only three weeks old, I suggest you create and sign a new identity and consider this a completely new node.

Out of curiosity, what did you use to edit the config.yaml file when you added the line for zksync?

Also, you might be interested in this discussion about alternatives to NoIP if you want to avoid the expiring host name problem.

Noted I shall delete the identity and start again.

I used notepad only seeing after to use notepad++. Unsure as to why that would make a difference it is just one line on a text file. I will make sure to Notepad++ this time and backup the original.

Ahh cool I shall checkout that thread. Thanks all

They don’t - I’ve had one for years.
