Post pictures of your storagenode rig(s)

Believe me… no  you cannot estimate exactly when you will full your HDD. Test data will push forever? Customers coming? Look at th3van setup and historic earnings (up and down) and do the math. Future will be better? I hope so! but if this is the case, the arrival of many other operators sharing earnings will also be inevitable.

Yepp you`re right there is basically no way to calculate this project exactly because of too many floating variables. All my “calculations” are assumptions based on my experiences the last 5 years.

But i will give this a try and we will see how it works out for me in a few months.

I got a new new toy to play with.

I was planning to add 200Tb of space in this. But I first start with about 70Tb on top of my existing 30Tb

Congrats! Now is a great time to bring more space online… because capacity-reservation dataa is still growing.

Soon we’ll all be constantly fighting for only recycled TTL data: but for now there’s still some fresh stuff! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Good thing is, I will get transferred to a new datacenter. And will get a free upgrade from 1Gbit uplink to 10Gbit uplink

So even more data for me :stuck_out_tongue:

We should start calling you MarviBi3n3!

I think it’s a long way till there. But it’s my plan to do “big business”

How much does he have total at the moment? I can’t find/see that at the moment, cause I’m mobile at the moment.

But it’s an honor to be placed beside him❤️

It looks like he has 2PB online, and about 1PB used now. I know he was up close to 1.5PB used before The Purge.

I think he is more on Soc2 programm

My new Stojnator case. up to 28 HDD with good vent cooling.
I will combine small old servers to this one.
with E5-2680 CPU, 64GB RAM
It will bring more Power efficiency.

Fractal Define R5 with added drive cages from another Fractal Define R5… so it can fit a max of 13x 3.5" drives.

Currently have 7 drives used for storj, plus a SSD working predominately as a ZFS L2 cache. about… 43TB raw space.

Do update your post with finished setup

I see 9 drives and  EVGA PSUs. What are your other specs ?

Another Fractal Define here! The 5" bay is soldered on my R4…

Previously my main rig. 108TB half StorJ, half media/backup.

They are really good. I love Noctua  Do you prefer Exos over WD ?

Not particularly, just grabbed what’s on sale. I do like the Mach 2x dual actuator drives (shucked externals), gave those to StorJ for random I/O.

yeah! Fractal Define R5 gang! I got the extra drive cages from my other R5, which I use for my gaming computer. The first one I bought used but was missing some sleds. it was hard to find sleds, but I found someone locally selling a used one for $50 in mint condition, so now I am blessed with two.

I used to have two EVGA PSU’s, but the one in the server fried after a brief power outage. So this was a swap from my gaming computer. I also now have a UPS plugged in.

It’s my home server. operating system is vmware esxi (I have a free license from before that was taken away). drives passed through to TrueNAS VM (I used to use openmediavault until recently). drives are shared via NFS to a different VM running storj in docker. yeah I know NFS shares are considered bad, but it’s how I split out the storage from the other radon VM activity.

it was going to be gaming computer, so the specs are… overkill in some ways. it’s also used for common stuff like plex, pihole, crypto wallets (chi and gridcoin) and immich (photo sharing).

It’s a refurb MSI carbon Z690 motherboard and a 13700K CPU, 64GB ram total (bought used)

I have an ancient emulex 10gb ethernet adaptor. SAS controller is a HP H240 (passed through to TrueNAS).

onboard m.2 256GB SSD (from a old laptop) is esxi boot.
used enterprise SATA SSD (mounted in back) is used or all the VMs.

One of the 14TB hard drives is used for the other storage, movies, photos, desktop backups. I have a USB hard drive I plug in once in a while to take an offline backup.

the SAS SSD is a 3.2TB, 7 year old HGST/sun/oracle MLC enterprise drive. ended up getting it fluke cheap after a failed ebay auction. endurance is 1DWPD so it’s going to last forever. I have it manually split into partitions for L2ARC caches for each storj drive.

The other drives for storj are a motley mix of whatever was a good deal used. Mostly SAS and some sata. For storj it’s 3x14 TB drive (the newest adds), 2x 12TB, and 2x 8TB.

Interesting! I had seen that type of case before with 2x12 HDD trays… but I guess yours is 2x14? What do you plan for a HBA: maybe a LSI 9305-24i for most of the drives then 4 motherboard SATA ports? (Or save money with a smaller HBA+expander?)

All last projects I used this one.
LSI SAS 9300-16I 12GB/S HBA BUS ADAPTER CARD IT Mode+4*SFF-8643 SATA Cable
but i need to buy it.
Also I have some 8 port RAID cards(I need to update them to IT mode i think.)
Motherboard has 2 PCIe x16: 2 PCIe x4: 1 PCIe x1, so i have several expansion possibilities.
